One of the highlight of SAP CONNECT 2019 was again the Hackathon. SAP CONNECT is SAP’s annual summit for partners in Austria, Germany and Switzerland with more than 1500 participants from 500 partner companies which makes it the second largest partner event globally behind the SAP Global Partner Summit.

The requirements set for the teams to participate where the following:

Teams of 3 to 5 members with expert knowledge in native Apple IOS or Android development, good understanding of APIs (ODATA and REST).

Most of the teams did not have any knowledge of the SAP Cloud Platform before the event!

All teams were presented with a Challenge provided by Frosta to improve the interaction between the salesperson for frozen food and the customer. To build this solution the teams developed a mobile solution on top of the SAP Cloud Platform and leveraged the SAP Data Intelligence to make intelligent predictions.

After three hours of Accelerated Design Thinking process the teams got a single hour of knowledge transfer on the Technical topics like the SAP Cloud Platform Mobile SDKs and SAP Data Intelligence. This enabled the teams to get started on their adventure.

Within 23 hours the teams build working solutions with the support and guidance of technical experts from SAP.

All results where impressive. Each team built

  • a backend as Service in the cloud with the SAP Cloud Platform OData Backend Generator

  • they leveraged SAP Data Intelligence

  • they used the SAP Cloud Platform SDK for Android or iOS to build their mobile solution.

After long discussion the Jury elected the solution from Team QSC to be this year’s winner of the SAP CONNECT Hackathon

The QSC AG team build a iOS mobile App for the salesperson. This app enabled the salesperson to see details about a certain customer(a supermarket) and help to guide conversation to increase the sales of Frosta products in this market.
impressive was the augmented reality use where the salesperson can show a promotion video for a product and also show product details.

The team Ecenta AG team build an iPad solution which gives a nice Dashboard to a Salesperson to help to simplify and plan the workday. The app gives fast access to all details about a customer and current orders of the customer. Details of products can be shown to a customer and orders can be created inside the solution.
The team Slenderizer has build an iPhone solution to help the salesperson to interact with a customer. The salesperson has fast access to his customer and their orders. Details of a product can also be directly accessed form the solution to support the conversations with the customer.
The team Evora ITbuild an iPad solution where the salesperson can see details about products in an augmented reality view. The salesperson can order products right out of that view.
To help the customer to place the products better the team also leveraged the SAP Data Intelligence service to show a heat map of sales of certain products.
The team Lufthansa Industry Solutions build an iPhone solution which supports the salesperson to have an informed relationship with the customer. Through integration of IoT sensors for example, the current temperature of a delivery can be tracked.
