Intelligent Enterprises use the latest technologies to turn insight into action across their business in real time. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the technologies. As it is our aspiration to bring intelligence to the enterprise by offering our customers embedded IoT into Line of Business (LoB) applications, let me highlight another integration capability: the integration of SAP Leonardo IoT with SAP Cloud Platform Workflow and SAP Business Workflow.
SAP Business Workflow is an ABAP-based workflow framework that powers core business processes in both on-premise (with SAP Business Suite and on-premise SAP S/4HANA) and cloud (with SAP S/4HANA Cloud) deployments.
SAP Cloud Platform Workflow is a workflow framework available with SAP Cloud Platform which allows customers to create free-format workflow definitions through web-based tool (SAP Web IDE Full Stack) and graphical Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) standard.
Both SAP Business Workflow and SAP Cloud Platform Workflow framework allow SAP customers and SAP partners to build, run, and manage workflows from not only simple approvals but to end-to-end processes that can span across different organizations and applications to optimize and enhance existing and future business processes.
Integrating SAP Leonardo IoT to SAP’s workflow frameworks brings valuable additional insights together with IoT sensor data – to further enrich business context.
Consider following scenario, where a purchase requisition approval needs to be created based on low fill level of a silo or any other receptacle which contains a product that is a critical part of your supply chain. If such a receptacle is sensor enabled IoT device, powered by SAP Leonardo IoT, with help of seamless integration to either of the two SAP workflow frameworks, procurement department will have access to real-time data and insights to further enhance and automate the procurement process.
SAP Leonardo IoT offers out of the box integration with these two SAP’s workflow services, through SAP Cloud Platform’s destination service and SAP Leonardo IoT’s action framework. You can learn more about this integration scenario with further technical details here.
