Can move SAP BI platform to the cloud

There are many ways available today to take advantage of the cloud to lower costs: either infrastructure costs, operations costs, or application costs.

You can stay on premise, but you can also:

1.The first one is Private Cloud (IaaS), where you host BOE/Business Objects Enterprise on SAP HEC (HANA Enterprise Cloud) or a provider AWS/Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure as well as 3rd party hosting providers. In this case, you can use your existing BOE licenses, SAP calls it BYOL bring your own license. With HEC, SAP can provide BOE licenses in a subscription model.  The benefit of the private BOC cloud model is for customers who don’t want to manage their infrastructure internally and offload those costs to a hosting provider.  Customers would still need to administer and upgrade their BOE system in this hosted model, however, HEC does provide a managed service offering to help customers with the administration and upgrades of BOE.

2.The second option is to use our Software as a service offering which is only sold on a subscription model.  The benefit of BusinessObjects Cloud is that it allows you to have all our analytics capabilities (BI, Planning, and Predictive) integrated into one solution with one user experience.

3.The 3rd option is to run a mix of on premise and cloud depending on the project.  We’re working on the SAP BI Hybrid license that will give you the flexibility to run the software the way you want. The product direction is to provide interoperability between SAP BusinessObjects BI and SAP Analytics Cloud. Today Analytics Content Network already provides a single front end for all analytics content (Source: SAP)

SAP Analytics Content Catalog (formerly known as Analytics Hub) is the go forward direction is “Single Enterprise Ready Portal for Analytics with Simplified an Guided analytics discovery taking advantage of business metadata and semantics from other solutions.

Single front end for all analytics, wherever it may be  – cloud, on-premise, 3rd party content

SAP puts them into following 3 themes, with some examples.

1.Default Content Catalog experience in SAP Analytics Cloud for Content consumption, also supporting non-SAP Analytics Cloud analytics content with Engaging Usability and Experience – pretty much also covering BI Fabric requirement

2.Seamlessly integrated with SAP Analytics Cloud Enterprise capabilities to move beyond browser content catalog to true Enterprise Portal for all analytics

Consider hybrid planning scenarios

SAC is primary innovation platform for BI and planning

Innovating in hybrid planning scenarios

  • SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) continues to be a key part of the SAP Analytics portfolio, specifically for those requiring an on-premise planning application.
  • Reasons for requiring an on-premise application include:
    • –Regulatory requirements related to situs of data storage
    • –Corporate policy or contractual agreements
    • –Ability to deliver deeply integrated planning capabilities as an integral component of an on premise SAP data warehouse
    • –Requirements for customization beyond the scope of a public cloud solution

Major new planning enhancements will be delivered in SAP Analytics Cloud; BPC customers can leverage these enhancements via “hybrid” integration with Analytics Cloud ensuring a path of continuous innovation. In addition, BPC will receive incremental enhancements based on customer feedback, and be maintained to ensure compatibility with underlying technology components and legal compliance.
