Upgrade to Oracle 19c with activated Database Vault (DV) has been tested successfully

Hi Community Members,

Just like previously with Oracle 18c, and 19c with Multitenant,  I had the chance to test the Oracle 19c Upgrade with Database Vault.

This time the environment is:

Source Oracle RDBMS Release: 18

Activated Database Vault (during the whole upgrade)

SAP NW 7.5

Verdict:

  • RDBMS Software installtion is possible without specifying any additional option (easier installation)
  • Manual Listener Migration is recommended, but I would say ‘stronly recommended’
  • no additional option is required for dbua.sap.sh
  • per default DBUA is executed by dbua.sap.sh with -skipListenerMigration option
  • avoid using ‘Slient Mode’ as much as possible

SAP notes that will contain more information (once they get released):

2799900 – Central Technical Note for Oracle Database 19c

2660017 – Oracle Database Software Installation on Unix

2800001 – Upgrading to Oracle Database 19c (DBUA)

2540847 – SAP Guides for Oracle Database Upgrade

In addition to these, I released the Upgrade Guide here.

Any update from SAP about oracle 19C with Netweaver support. I tried to access OSS note "2800001 – Upgrading to Oracle Database 19c (DBUA)" but unable to access this one. I think this is for internal SAP resource. We are currently on Oracle 12.1 extended support and there is plan to get Oracle release upgrade in Q1 2020. If 19C is released for Netweaver version, will be good opportunity to go directly to 19C. Thank you for your help.

That time Oracle 19c was still not released.

But now, the SAP note 2800001 was released on 20.12.2019. So Oracle 19c is released by SAP as documented in the SAP note 2817074 - Oracle Database 19c: Integration in SAP environment
