SAP on IBM i: Recommendations and Review document update

Do you have SAP Business Suite systems that were installed as many as five, fifteen or twenty-five years ago? Have you inherited responsibility for SAP systems that may have been installed that long ago? As SAP NetWeaver and IBM i release levels have come and gone, best practices have evolved. New functionalities have either become available as optional settings or in some cases as a new default behavior from what had been done in older releases, making some older settings irrelevant. To assist you in keeping your systems up to date, we created a document that can be used to perform a quick review in some key areas.

The first iteration of this document was released in June of 2010 and was intended to provide SAP on IBM i administrators with a simple set of items that should be checked to make sure SAP systems were keeping up with best practices that would avoid problems and optimize performance. Over the years this document has grown as SAP NetWeaver and IBM i release levels have come and gone, best practices have evolved, and new functionalities have either become available or changed from older releases.

The latest version of the “SAP NetWeaver on IBM i Recommendations and Review” whitepaper has been released as of November 4th, 2019. Based on SAP and IBM documentation, SAP Notes, IBM Redbooks, and experiences of the IBM i Development team, items in this document should be applicable to most, if not all, SAP on IBM i installations.

Please check and consider implementing the topics in the whitepaper on your SAP systems if you have not already done so.  In some cases you could see immediate performance benefits. You should not miss out on several technical improvements that have been delivered since your current SAP on IBM i solutions were installed or even since they went through their most recent upgrades.
