In my previous blog post, I explained how SAP Cloud Platform Portal is helping our customers improve their vendor experience and the efficiency of their supply chains. Today, I would like to show you how this same agile technology can be used to improve workforce productivity.

At SAP, many of our customers are actively investing in employee experience, knowing that today's workforce expects interactions at work to be consumer-like and tailored to unique roles and responsibilities. Employee portals are playing a pivotal role in these companies' strategies as portals offer employees a single point of access to get information and perform tasks – whether in SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors, or other applications. These portals put the employee right at the center of the action with an intuitive, consistent, and personalized experience that is accessible from any device.

Transforming Employee Experience with SAP Cloud Platform Portal

Let's look at a real-life example: a fast-growing global professional services company that relies on SAP Business Suite and SAP SuccessFactors for its core business processes. The company wanted to deliver to its thousands of employees – at the office and in the field - a single personalized point of access to get their day started and conduct their work activities efficiently.

Before implementing a centralized employee portal with SAP Cloud Platform Portal, the company was relying on intranet sites for accessing corporate services which were neither effective nor engaging for the employees. Access to business applications and content management solutions was cumbersome especially for consultants in the field who were using a variety of devices.

The new employee portal provides a single-sign-on and role-based access to the resources individual employees need to access business applications, find the information they need, and process tasks. With SAP Cloud Platform Portal and the many services available on SAP Cloud Platform (e.g., Inbox, mobile, workflow), the company saved precious time but also ensured that access to critical data and processes was kept secure and intuitively accessible for employees at corporate offices or on the road.

The portal was rolled out in the US at first, and the employees’ feedback have been extremely positive. SAP Fiori UX played a major role in making the experience consistent and engaging from every device. So did the ability to apply corporate branding, which fostered team spirit. From an IT standpoint, the simplicity and scalability of the solution gained high marks. It was easy to integrate SAP apps as it was to achieve the level of personalization sought by the different lines of business. The ability to rely on a managed cloud service for worldwide-deployment also will allow IT to focus on innovation that will provide even more customized services to employees, such as introducing AI-driven recommendations and notifications.

Why SAP Cloud Platform Portal for your Employee Portal?

If you need an enterprise-class solution that works synergistically with you SAP-based solutions and eases your transition to the cloud with support for hybrid landscapes, you should give a serious look at SAP Cloud Platform Portal. The advantages are clear. It starts with the ease of delivering a consistent experience across SAP applications and providing access from any device. I mentioned SAP Cloud Platform Portal's agility at the very beginning of this blog. And, if you have read my previous post about supplier portals, you have certainly noted the similarity of capabilities required to implement a successful employee portal. Yet, the two use cases are fundamentally different form a business perspective and in some of the technical requirements. The good news is that no matter the specialization of your users (employees, suppliers, partners or customers), SAP Cloud Platform Portal provides you the simplicity, scale, and flexibility you need to transform their experience. Plus, SAP's unique multi-cloud support also gives you the flexibility to deploy your portal and continue to use the SAP Cloud Platform Services on multiple public cloud providers. You might want also to check out the services provided by our partners, and that can be consumed from SAP Cloud Platform Portal. For example, ContentStack which provides headless Web Content Management systems and Egnyte which offers Document Management.
