Hello Everyone, hope you are all enjoying the tech-ed season. This blog turns out to be a series of loads of questions after seeing the focus on Integration this season, presence of Mendix (Mendix Low-Code Guide ) at the tech-ed and the road map of these offerings.

Low-Code Development Platform? What do you mean, you haven't heard of it yet?

I don't want to bore the readers with redundant data, so please use the link above to understand what's a low-development platform. Low-Code Development Platforms let you develop apps quickly with very less coding using the drag-drop functionality in the platform.

Wait? when the above statement got processed in the brains of my friends of Integration & Orchestration fraternity, did it feel like "that's what we are doing with SAP PO & CPI??" I hope I am not the only one with this thought 🙂

Rapid Application Development (RAD)

SAP from the era of RDS (Rapid Deployment Solutions) has entered now in the era of RAD (Rapid Application Development). Do check out the link - SAP Cloud Platform RAD by Mendix.

Mendix has already penetrated in the magic quadrant of Gartner as a leader in the Low-Code Application Development Platform for Enterprise Category.

Also, the partnership statement says - "Mendix is an SAP Solution Extension partner, which means SAP has fully adopted the Mendix Platform as their platform to extend SAP solutions like SAP Business Suite, SAP S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, and more. The product name that SAP uses for Mendix is SAP Cloud Platform Rapid Application Development by Mendix."

HPaPaaS & iPaaS

The points to ponder upon with the aPaaS (HPaPaaS) and iPaas offerings of SAP Cloud Platform is their road-map in terms of integrating SAP Cloud systems like Successfactors, Concur, Ariba, Hana.

The road-map gives a clear idea about the product direction being towards developing more and more sophisticated connectors for SAP. Lets try to understand with the below Venn diagram

What's The Problem?

By this time, curious minds would have googled this hard to pronounce word HPaPaaS and about Mendix (zoho, appian etc.) , and if these are so productive then what's the problem?

Here is what I think, this makes the decision life cycle for SAP customers a little more tedious and the fear of again aPaaS getting considered as solution to their SOA landscape.

This short piece of blog is to help out the customers understand that if consider road-map and guideline differences of SAP PO, CPI and aPaaS solutions like Mendix as visible virtual line, then with more and more cloud solutions this line is getting thinner and invisible, thus the importance of decision making around consolidating your integration (soa) landscape with correct Integration solutions and reducing you application development life cycle increases.

As i mentioned this blog is more about questions striking my and your mind, when we read about the low code platform and RAD, so I welcome fellow experts on the community to do comment with their views.
