SAP Analytics Cloud Story provides very powerful analytical capabilities without need to do any programming, but requires knowledge of basic workflows. In my blog I will give you an example how to fulfill complex analytical requirements combining basic workflows into complex one.

Lets say you need to display Top N Connections sorted descending by Flight Occupancy Rate.

Chart widget in SAP Analytics Cloud can do either one or another e.g. either sort Connections by Flight Occupancy Rate in descending order or display Top N Connections based on Booking $ (not sorted by Flight Occupancy Rate).

As you can see from screenshots above Connections are sorted by Flight Occupancy Rate in descending order, but problem is that Connections can not be limited to Top N based on Bookings $ eliminating outliers and focusing on big players because there is not Bookings $ measure in drop down.

If we try other way around we will not achieve our goal as well

Looks like we are almost there

The moment we choose Top N Flight Occupancy Rate we loose our sorting by Booking $.

Our goal can be achieved adding second chart widget and linking both charts using linked analysis.

Now it is easy. What it will take just a few clicks.

First limit Connections to Top N:

Lasso and filter Top N Connections on left chart in order to apply Top N Connections filter to right chart:

Finally sort right chart by Flight Occupancy Rate descending:

P.S. There can be many variations of above analysis workflow because there are number of ways how you can select and then filter / exclude data points on Treemap chart.
