Archiving financial documents with SAP S/4HANA Finance – do it in October

Enjoy the green while it lasts, because autumn is drawing nearer. The leaves will get richer, the colors will get brighter, and deep reds and oranges will soon saturate the luscious green. And as the leaves fall away from the trees, autumn will arrive, and then it’ll be time to start gathering those leaves before you slip and fall. When you think about it, documents also go through their seasons too. And you need to sort the old from the new and archive the ones that are less important, getting them out of your way to prevent them from cluttering up and slowing down your business.

The leaf-clutter is great! And it’s good fun to kick through them as they pile up on top of each other, but when the documents start to clutter up the memory of your systems, it’s not fun anymore. So by the time you get through summer, perhaps a cleanup will be due on your FI documents too?

And you can start with your FI documents and journal entries which are no longer accessed during normal operation. Have your system write archivable documents, including change documents to one or more archive files. They will become and remain historical yet accessible, and this will greatly improve the reduction in your memory footprint. SAP Enterprise Support Academy has updated our material on FI archiving and is offering a new and upcoming release of a specially dedicated meet-the-expert (MTE) webinar to cover the following:

  • Financial document archiving process in SAP S/4HANA 1503 onwards
  • Prerequisites for archiving
  • The compression run as part of the archiving process

 Are you already using?

  • FI_DOCUMNT in ERP suite and plan to migrate to SAP S/4HANA Finance
  • SAP S/4HANA Finance and intend to archive by usage of FI_DOCUMNT
  • SAP S/4HANA Finance and need to lower the data volume of your financial tables (e.g. ACDOCA)

If you answered yes to any of the above, then the upcoming MTE will be a great resource for you!

Before you can access the registration link below, a one-time registration in SAP Learning Hub, edition for SAP Enterprise Support, is required. A detailed step-by step guide to registration can be found here.

Is there a value map to support me with my SAP S/4HANA implementation?

Yes! SAP Enterprise Support value maps powered by SAP Enterprise Support Academy are a great place for customers in pre go-live stage to get valuable information that can help you to understand how to plan, prepare and go through your implementation processes. Also, with value maps you get access to SAP experts and are able to ask questions. Customers in post go-live stages will also find interesting information, like notifications about upcoming product updates, links to available resources, blogs written by specialists, and so on.

Note: To register for the value map, you may require access to SAP Learning Hub, edition for SAP Enterprise Support. Already-registered members can access the value map directly via the SAP Enterprise Support Value Maps learning room
