What’s New in 1908 release of SAP Cloud for Customer – Fiori Client
In this blog I will be covering some of the key features available in the August 2019 (1908) release of SAP Cloud for Customer – Fiori Client.
Sunset of HTML5 UI for all users with 1911 release production upgrade
- As announced with 1808 release, HTML5 UI will be sunset with 1911 release for all users.
- 1908 release (August 2019 release) is the last productive release for HTML5 UI. HTML5 UI will stop working after 1911 production upgrade (November 2019) due to technical limitations and its use cannot be extended beyond November 2019.
- HTML5 UI will be sunset for all users (Administrators and Business users) with the production upgrade of customers systems to 1911 release.
- All users – Key users and Business users will only have access to Fiori client UI and can no longer access HTML5 UI with 1911 release upgrade.
- All business user functionality (Feature parity with HTML5 UI) is now available in Fiori client by 1902 release.
- All key user functionality is planned to be available in Fiori client by 1905/1908 release.
- Fiori Client is now the default client with 1908 release upgrade
- HTML5 UI will stop working as soon as 1911 productive upgrade occurs in November 2019 and cannot be extended due to technical limitations
Fiori Client UI is now default UI
- Fiori Client is now set as default UI client. Customers can set HTML5 UI as default manually for 1908 release.
- This change only affects the UI client setting at the main company setting level. If UI client setting is maintained at Role level, then this is not affected by the change.
- As HTML5 UI sunset nears, this change will help customers prepare for the switch to Fiori Client UI.
- In the user menu, select Settings -> Company Settings -> Client tab. For the Client drop down, you can pick the client you want to maintain as default for the Company/ Business Role setting
Editable Datasets
- For many Datasets, it is now possible to edit information directly within the Dataset without having to navigate to the Object Detail
- Significant User Experience improvement by saving several clicks and time (of not having to open object details for quick changes).
- Enable company setting – “Enable Editing in Dataset in Fiori Client”
- Note:
- This company setting will be retired with May 2020 release and Editing Datasets will become a default behavior.
- This feature is not supported on Blue Crystal theme
Moving Actions to top of the screen
- All Actions have been moved to the top of screen area. This provides a consistent user experience as the user is not searching to find actions spread out across the UI.
- Finalizing actions such as Save, Cancel will appear at the bottom in most cases.
- Consistent and faster access to Actions as the user knows that all actions are now available at top of the screen.
- Setup: Enable company setting – “Show the Actions Menu on the Top Right in Fiori Client”.
- Note: This company setting will be retired with May 2020 release and Actions Menu on Top will become the default behavior.
Inline Edit for Object Detail – Desktop only
- Inline Edit is now available on for certain fields on Object Detail pages.
- Hovering over a field that is inline edit capable will show a corresponding change icon. Editing the field will trigger Save/Cancel action.
- Inline Edit capability is available on browsers for Desktop/Laptop computers only.
- Users can save time by quickly editing a field without having to go into global edit mode. This saves time in loading the global edit mode screens
- Setup: Enable company setting – “Enable Inline Editing in Browser in Fiori Client”
- Note:
- For scenarios where lot of fields are to be edited, it is still recommended to use the global edit mode.
- This company setting will be retired with May 2020 release and Inline Edit will be available as a default feature.
- This feature is not supported on Blue Crystal theme
Header fields to top of Object Details page
- Header fields can now be placed in the top area of the Object Detail page. These will always be visible even when you switch facets within Object Details.
- Customers now have a choice to show the header field on the top of Object Detail page or in the Side pane of Object Detail page.
- If the below mentioned company setting is enabled, and the Side pane is also turned ON, then the Header fields will be shown on the top of Object Details page
- Significant User Experience improvement by saving several clicks and time (of not having to open object details for quick changes).
- Setup: Enable company setting – “Show Header Details on the Top in Fiori Client”
- Note:
- This company setting will be retired with May 2020 release and Header Fields on Top will become the default behavior.
- Customers can still show the Header fields in Side pane if Side pane is enabled and this company setting is disabled.
- Header fields from Overview facet will be retired with May 2020 release
- This feature is not supported on Blue Crystal theme and Internet Explorer
- This company setting will be retired with May 2020 release and Header Fields on Top will become the default behavior.
Donut Chart enhancements
- Donut Chart has been enhanced to show information in more colors.
Homepage Content Caching during Login
- Homepage content is now cached in order to improve login experience.
- Upon login cached data is shown and then latest information is fetched where changes may have occurred. If changes are present then this is updated on the Homepage card automatically.
- This behavior is only available upon login.
Title Text change for Easy Create pop-up
- Title of the Easy Create popup now indicated that the objects created via Easy Create are always created in reference to the objects the Easy Create is launched from.
- Example: In this image shown, Easy Create is launched from an Bluedrive Account object. Thus any object (Appointment, Lead, Email etc.) created via Easy Create will always reference the Bluedrive Account it is being called from.
About Page
- About Page is now available in Fiori Client.
- The page provides users information about the product and version

Hello, I have a question because I do not quite understand the different UI technologies:
Does it mean, I cannot use my browser to use the S/4HANA system as a business user anymore (>= 1911) and have to install the native fiori client on my mobile device? How can I extend FIORI apps as a developer, are they running as HTML5 apps inside the fiori client container? Or do I have to write native apps then?
Thanks and regards,
Pascal Rodé
This change is only for the product - Cloud for Customer. S/4 HANA system is not affected by this change.
Hi,
short question, appreciate if you could please respond.
with 1911 upgrade HTML UI5 will stop working so, my question is how do I make Layout changes in FIORI Client, is there a document which explains how to do Layout changes or Adaptation changes or add field validations etc. on FIORI client.
Thanks
Chandu
This capability should be available with 1911 release
Hi Shailesh,
Thanks for the explanation on the UI changes for SAP cloud for customer.
I have a question regarding the planned changes:
Do I understand correctly there is plan to provide a similar UI experience as SAP marketing cloud and S4HANA cloud? I can't find anything back in the roadmap.
Additionally, I've heard about the new layout for the agent desktop. Is this only available in SAP customer engagement center? Do I understand correctly that customer engagement center is a completely different solution from the SAP service cloud?
Thank you in advance,
best regards,
Maarten

Hi Shailesh,
You mention
Which fields is this setting available/unavailable for?
Perhaps you may know where I can find out this information. It would be very useful for explaining the inconsistencies in the UI when the feature is enabled and some fields are still not editable inline.
For example I can see the option for fields on type “InputField” but not “CompoundField”.
Is this always the case?
Thank you and best regards,
John.
