SAP Cloud Platform Master Data for business partners release 1.2

Version 1.2 of SAP Cloud Platform Master Data for business partners was released in June, 2019. This version mainly addresses the scenario wherein business partner is required to be distributed to multiple applications within the customer’s landscape.

To support Intelligent Enterprise Suite scenarios such as Lead to Cash, Source to Pay and so on, it is highly critical that business partner master data is shared across applications running these scenarios. To achieve that, one of the underlying features expected from the service is distribution of data to multiple applications (both cloud and on-premise).

Until the 1.1 release of the service, replication of data was limited to one system only which was responsible for validation (leading system) i.e., SAP S/4 HANA or SAP MDG system. With the 1.2 release, distribution of data to multiple applications is supported. This ensures that business partner is centrally managed on cloud and is available for applications to run end-to-end business processes.

The following features are available with the 1.2 release of SAP Cloud Platform Master Data for business partners:

1. Supplier master attributes

Another addition to the service is the availability of supplier entities/attributes for replication/distribution to support Source to Pay scenarios. For this release, a limited set of attributes are introduced which are essentially required to replicate supplier to SAP S/4HANA or SAP Master Data Governance system. This feature set would be enhanced as more applications are integrated in future releases.

The supplier master attributes and the operations supported using SAP Cloud Platform Master Data for business partners are as follows:

2. Distribution of business partner records

You can use this feature to distribute business partner records (along with customer attributes) from SAP Cloud Platform to multiple consuming applications (leading and non-leading systems). SAP Cloud Platform Master Data for business partners has integrated with orchestration service to enable this feature.

Note: Leading system is a single source of truth for all your business partner records (SAP S/4HANA or MDG system) and data validation. Consuming application is any on-premise or cloud application (SAP or non-SAP) that wants to consume business partner data. Following are the apps available once you subscribe to the distribution service.

The Manage Distribution Model app enables you to define and modify the distribution model, which includes information like business object type, activation status, recurrence and filtering. With filtering, you can specify which master data will be distributed and determine the source and the target as well as at what point in time the model will be executed.

The Manage Object Type Owners app allows you to define the object type owner. During the creation of new master data, the Manage Object Type Owners application will be requested whether there is an object type owner existing, if so, whether it can be enriched by additional information, or, in case of master data change activities, whether the planned change is allowed to be executed. Object Type Owners refers to the leading system in SAP Cloud Platform Master Data for business partners.

The Display Distribution Status app enables you to monitor the distribution status. An object receives a status as soon as its distribution is initiated. The status describes when an object was sent as well as the current state of distribution. You can also display the business logs for a specific business partner distribution run.

3. Key mapping distribution service

You can use this feature to distribute business partner key mapping information from SAP Cloud Platform to multiple consuming applications such as SAP S/4HANA or SAP Master Data Governance. You can use this feature via the Manage Distribution Model app.
