Classification of Maintenance Plan

Maintenance planner creates maintenance plans to ensure proper level of preventive care for various assets and avoid costly breakdowns. It is obvious that strategies to maintain similar type of assets under similar operating conditions should be similar. It is also important to track some of the maintenance plans from legal or environmental compliance. For comprehensive review of how assets are performing, it is essential to establish relation between various plans of similar assets that are operated similarly.

A new enhancement delivered by SAP, allows classification of maintenance plans. The new feature is available to all the SAP customers who are having their ECC systems higher than EhP6, The delivery of this new features is done using SAP Notes, ensuring that you do not have to go through an upgrade of your system. It also ensures that your existing maintenance plans could be used without any change.

With this feature you have now a new Classification Type ‘080’ pre-delivered by SAP and it  could be used for classification of maintenance plans. As an example, you would like to classify various maintenance plans for various horizontal pumps in your plant. Each of these pumps may have various operating duty cycle, application criticality or compliance category. You may now create a class with class type ‘080’ and add characteristics as shown in an example below to classify maintenance plans for your pumps..

Newly created class can be assigned to the maintenance plans to classify it with required information as shown below. Such assignment can be done with transactions to create or change maintenance plans.

Once plans are classified, user can use IP15 or IP16 list reports to search maintenance plans with defined characteristics and assigned values. This simplified search capabilities allows them to manage Maintenance Plans for various equipment or functional location.

Once a plan is classified, it can be also converted as a template and used to create new plans as a reference to copy the class along with defined characteristics and assigned values.

Please note that the features are presented in SAPGUI screens, but same functionality is additionally available in simplified WEBDYNPRO screens.

You will require Business Function Enterprise Asset Management Part 12 (LOG_EAM_CI_12). Refer note “2648464 – Classification of Maintenance Plans” to get further information about this new functionality. You can also refer SAP help documentation ( Link ) to get further details.

Good feature, will benefit business by moving to system rather than doing all these classifications in excel. Can use this feature to classify maintenance plans and to find out critical PMs which are defined based on various requirements (operational, statutory etc.).
