This week 30,000 guests from over 100 countries flocked to Orlando to be a part of SAPPHIRE NOW, SAP’s annual 3-day celebration of business and technology. The last few days have been full of incredible presentations and workshops from SAP employees, partners, customers, and brand ambassadors.
Here are the highlights.
Opening Keynotes
On Tuesday SAP CEO Bill McDermott started SAPPHIRE with an exceptional keynote about what drives SAP. “Our purpose is in making you run better and improving the world,” he said to the audience of customers and partners. Hasso Plattner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and one of the original SAP Co-Founders, took the stage on Wednesday to open Day 2 of SAPPHIRE NOW. He explained SAP’s vision for the intelligent enterprise and emphasized the value of pairing operational data with experience data. Day 3 began with a panel lead by Alicia Tillman, Global Chief Marketing Officer at SAP. She interviewed entrepreneurs Jasmine Crowe of Goodr and Shirley Chen of Narrativ, along with Vanessa Liu of SAP.iO, to share how small businesses are changing the game in tech. Watch the replay below.
Launches
With SAPPHIRE NOW 2019 came the launch of new products, including Intelligent Robotic Process Automation, Data Intelligence, and SAP Leonardo IoT. Check out SAP News for the full list of product launches.
Intelligent Robotic Process Automation
SAP launched Intelligent Robotic Process Automation, or IRPA, to help businesses automate processes and spend more time on innovation. SAP’s IRPA platform allows users to build Intelligent bots to digitally execute repetitive tasks and offers integration with Machine Learning and Conversational AI technology.

Data Intelligence
SAP Data Intelligence breaks down data silos by maximizing value and transforming data into critical business insights. With the inclusion of all SAP Data Hub capabilities in the cloud, it combines IoT data streams, creates data warehouses, and allows for agile development in the intelligent enterprise.

Celebrity Guests
On Thursday morning Alicia Tillman sat down with Supermodel, Entrepreneur, and Philanthropist Karlie Kloss to talk about how she helps young women pursue careers in computing. Karlie values inclusion and authenticity, which was part of the reason she was interested in partnering with SAP. “I commend you guys for making it such a topline priority to have more women in leadership roles,” she said. “I think it sends a huge message to the world.”
Later, Bill McDermott joined Actor, Producer, and Philanthropist Sandra Bullock on stage. She encouraged us to find meaning in our setbacks. “Sometimes you have to let go and go with the process—it’s the same with business,” she said. Sandra talked about her early years in acting, pointing out that the bottom part of her IMDB page is less than ideal. “You can learn a lot from ugly bottoms,” she said with a laugh.
And of course, Lady Gaga is set to give a show-stopping performance tonight for SAPPHIRE NOW attendees. It’s just one of the “million reasons” why this year’s SAPPHIRE NOW rocks.
The Best Run
The red thread throughout the entire event is that we’re all interested in helping the world run better by leveraging business to solve problems.
Bill McDermott said it best in his opening keynote.
“This is much more than our motto. This is our maxim, our true north. Because your companies running at their very best inspire us to do our very best for you.”
