Introduction to SAP Cloud Platform Spatial Services:

Spatial services are self-organized services to fetch, spread or aggregate the business data.

The opportunities presented by Geo-referenced data are limitless. When the location is known, we bring context to everything from customer buying occurrences to supply chain management to risk assessment.

For instance, collecting and combining information about human activities – construction, transportation, and education –with a location’s Geo features – water quality and soil type – can allow better focusing for new business developments. Other data sets, such as weather forecasts, the movement of cargo ships around the world can be applied to predict crop yields and devise supply chain strategies.

Why Spatial services with SAP:

SAP HANA Geo-Spatial services enable users to deliver data through customer-friendly maps and integrate the results into custom business applications. In addition to this, custom models can be created to efficiently process streams of earth observation data such as water content or soil temperatures and process this data on high-quality base-maps.

Features of SAP HANA spatial services:

Act with live spatial intelligence

Extract high-value real time business information from satellite, drones, and open data sources and then easily discover and share location-based insights.

Build location-aware business solutions easily

A modeler tool is provided by SAP HANA Spatial Services to create or customize SAP-provided services.

Geo-spatial data can be further processed or visualized in business applications, GIS systems, websites SAP HANA services provide a visualization application and several REST services, for instance Drone and Object Detection services. In addition to this, SAP Cloud Platform Cockpit provides access to the detailed description of the available services, navigation link to the visualization application, and tools to monitor processing requests.

Start quickly with content

Consolidate all of your content into one place for data management and analysis along with industry models for risk prediction, anomaly detection, and further classification.

SAP HANA spatial services provide APIs for Geo-spatial processing:

SAP HANA spatial services in SAP Cloud Cockpit.

  • HERE Map Tile Service

The HERE Map Tile API is a REST API that allows us to request map tile images for all regions across the globe. We can use these map tiles in business applications as background for the visualization of Geo-Spatial data.

"In general, the recommended method for consuming the Map Tile service is through a front-end map library such as HERE Maps API for JavaScript."

  • Earth Observation Analysis

The Earth Observation Analysis service allows you to analyze satellite imagery by using REST calls. The Earth Observation Analysis service provides a search mechanism for finding an image of interest, and can be used to extract information of the segments like agriculture, weather prediction, environment monitoring, and mining industries, among others.

  • Spatial Data Management API

The spatial data management API provide integrated map-based query and reporting capabilities. This imagery can be uploaded to the SAP spatial services processing engine, which generates a standard georeferenced image for further processing and an image pyramid for mapping purposes.

  • Mapping API

Mapping API is the API designed particularly for creating maps on web. These APIs comprise of classes for layers and maps which saves one from composing the low level cipher for exhibiting interactive images of map and representing it with another layer.

  • Open POI Service

The Open Point of Interest (POI) service provides a RESTful API that returns information about places using HTTP requests. Places are defined within this API as establishments, geographic locations, or prominent points of interest.

  • Wildfire API

The WildFire API extends malware detection capabilities of WildFire. Using the WildFire API, you can automate the submission of files and links to WildFire or a WildFire appliance for analysis, and to query WildFire for verdicts, samples, and reports.

  • Surface API

The Surface API provides REST endpoints to get aggregated information about the earth's surface for a specific index – such as the Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI) – by area, and timeframe.

  • Point of Interest Search API

The point of interest search service provides REST services that search locations within a specific distance based on geo-coordinate. Points of interest (POIs) are collected from "geonames.org". The service can be used to find POIs around an area of interest by filtering them spatially.

The underlying dataset consists of the GeoNames geographical database.

  • Object Detection API

The object detection API provides REST services to detect objects in Geo-referenced images. The Object Detection service can be used for detecting objects in an image or a set of images and returns information declaring boundary box around the objects in every image.

  • Modeler API

Spatial Modeler API provides hundreds of functions, algorithms and analytical routines that can easily be chained together into models that solve complex Geo-spatial problems.

  • Weather API

The Weather API provides REST services to access weather forecasts and reports on current weather conditions. It provides information on severe weather alerts such as Current Forecast data, hourly forecast, daily forecast etc.

  • Process Management API

The process management API provides REST services to manage spatial background processes on customer data.

  • The Earth Observation API

The Earth Observation API allows to access to earth observation satellite data and on processing-on-demand services from different user/service categories.

Objectives:

Enrich business data with spatial data to give it context, lower the level of investment and expertise needed to leverage geo-referenced data and leverage state-of-the-art infrastructure and SAP’s business and technical expertise.

Solution:

SAP Cloud Platform provides ready-to-use spatial services provided with REST APIs, visualization application, and modeling tool to process the business data and further can be used in Business Applications.

Benefits:

  1. Successful exploitation of new global energy sources

  2. Find hidden opportunities first, know which sites are most promising, and make decisions quickly

  3. Work with complete, location accurate data that can be accessed through Business Applications.
