If you are using SAP Portfolio and Project Management 6.1 or within SAP S/4HANA, you can now move from the Java Plug-In-based Project Management Gantt chart (JGantt) to an SAPUI5 based Gantt. To be able to use the SAPUI5 Gantt the user does does not require to install a frontend component on the client, which reduces the administrative effort as well as the errors caused by outdated versions of the software.

Whether the new SAPUI5 Gantt or the previous JGantt is used set via a global customizing switch. To use the SAPUI5 Gantt the administrator needs to switch it on centrally, so it will not be possible to have some users using the JGantt and others using the SAPUI5 Gantt.

The new SAPUI5-based Gantt chart offers largely the same functional scope and user experience as the Gantt chart based on Java Plug-In technology.  Here's a first glimpse of what the new Gantt in PPM looks like and what is supported.
See also the additional videos on how the new Gantt works in fullscreen mode and how you can add tasks.

However, some functions provided by JGantt are not (yet) supported by the SAPUI5 Gantt or work differently. The details on this are contained in the PDF document attached to SAP Note 2645827.

Regarding supported Browsers: Usage of IE 11 is not recommended for this new Gantt solution due to performance issues caused by technical restrictions of the browser. Instead, it is recommended to use one of the following Browsers: Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari (for MacOS).

The following SAP Note summarizes the availability, technical prerequisites and customizing settings for using the new solution:

The new solution is available via SPs for the following releases:

      • SAP Portfolio and Project Management 6.1  (CPRXRPM 610_740)
