New EGI! Data aging with SAP HANA

SAP Enterprise Support Academy has released a new expert-guided implementation (EGI) on data aging with SAP HANA. Data aging is a data management concept in SAP HANA for reducing the SAP HANA memory footprint. It offers the option of moving large amounts of data within SAP HANA in order to gain more working memory.

Differentiating between operationally relevant data and data that is no longer accessed during normal operation, tables with application data are horizontally partitioned by time selection partitioning to determine their data temperature (hot/current versus cold/historical) to optimize resource consumption and performance. By moving data between the partitions (for example, from hot to cold), hot data is stored within SAP HANA main memory and the cold data remains primarily stored on disk, remaining accessible via SQL on request. This reduces the main memory footprint and speeds up database queries by only keeping operationally relevant (hot) data in main memory.

This means that you can perform queries of large amounts of data in a much shorter time!

After having considered your potential in how much the SAP HANA memory footprint can be reduced, to be able to apply data aging to your data, you need to fulfill certain requirements regarding the database and the application.

Registration is open for the ongoing EGI, demonstrating the setting up of data aging basis tables for application logs, intermediate documents, workitems documents, and change documents. All SAP Enterprise Support and PSLE customers that are registered in SAP Learning Hub can join.

Is there a value map for this and other topics on data volume management?
Yes! SAP Enterprise Support value maps powered by SAP Enterprise Support Academy are a great place for customers in pre go-live stage to get valuable information that can help you to understand how to plan, prepare and go through your implementation processes. Also, with value maps you get access to SAP experts and are able to ask questions. Customers in post go-live stages will also find interesting information, like notifications about upcoming product updates, links to available resources, blogs written by specialists, and so on.
