Technology is pervasive in every aspect of our lives, and work is no exception. But while the technology we use in our daily lives has evolved to meet our every need, that which we use at work often falls short.

So, it’s not surprising that a report on 2018 global workplace trends found that there’s a major disconnect between the ease with which employees access data in their personal lives and at work. The consumer-grade technology experience employees expect at work is impeded by critical information being difficult to access, and employee benefits information is no exception!

That’s why with the Q1 2019 release I am pleased to share with you enhancements to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Global Benefits that improve the employee experience.

Easier access to benefits-related tasks

Mobile apps can make benefits engagement much easier with anywhere, anytime access. It’s also where people spend their time. Did you know that there are over 20 billion devices connected to the Internet today? That's three devices for every single person on the planet!

The SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Global Benefits solution now offers benefit reimbursements as part of the SAP SuccessFactors Mobile app for use with iOS and Android devices. Employees can now view eligible benefit claims, submit a claim, see the status of submitted claims, take a picture of a receipt, or submit a receipt on their mobile device, as well as view a history of the claims submitted. Mobile access improves the user experience and provides easier access to benefits-related tasks.

But that’s not all. We’ve also simplified access to the benefits page by leveraging action search, thus making the navigation to benefits information quicker and easier for employees.

We’ve also expanded support for health savings account (HSA) plans in the United States to handle work and life events, and provided the ability for employees to opt-out of an enrolled benefit.

HSA functionality has been enhanced to support any enrollment scenario, including changes outside of open enrollment, with the ability to prorate annual contribution amounts when tier group changes happen due to work and life events during the benefit year. For example, when an employee becomes married or divorced, the system determines how many pay periods are remaining in the plan year and offers the legally mandated IRS choices to the plan participant based on their health insurance enrollment tier.

And, if an employee chooses to opt-out of an enrolled benefit due to a qualifying work or life event, they can process that change quickly and easily using employee self-service.

That’s not all…

You might have noticed that we surpassed 3,000 Employee Central customers just before 2019. Obviously this is something we are really proud of to see so many customers in all sizes and in all industries adopting our core HR solution to improve their businesses.

In terms of functionality updates: We continue our focus on localization with two new country versions – Angola and Malawi. Bringing the total number of countries we support to 96.

Secondly, we have improved our (re)hiring process. We can now enforce rehire on a new employment for terminated employees and for international transfers. These are situations that have to occur in a certain form in order for the data to be correct for tax purposes and to be in-line with local law. This new functionality helps to enforce this, so that for these employees payroll will run correctly across these employments.

Additionally, as part of our Intelligent Enterprise strategy to connect our cloud applications we have provided two new integration scenarios between SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central and SAP S/4HANA Cloud. These are the first integrations we deliver without the need for middleware, via our Integration Center. The integrations support the importing of legal entities and the bank repository data from SAP S/4 HANA Cloud into Employee Central. This avoids double maintenance of master data in multiple systems, ensuring the accuracy of records.
