One of the best parts of working on the Internet of Things (IoT) at SAP is seeing ideas turn into real-world use cases turn into better business outcomes. This is the story of SAP customer Pregis.

Pregis is a leading provider of packaging materials (think: air pillows, air-filled wrap, and foam sheeting) found in everyday packages. They have packaging machines setup at their customers' distribution centers and work to maximize the value of their "consumables-on-demand" business model. Online shoppers expect their purchases to show up safely and undamaged, and Pregis is the company that sits between some of the world's largest retailers and end consumers to make this happen.

Enter SAP Leonardo IoT: an all-encompassing Industrial IoT solution designed for businesses to accelerate their digital transformation as part of their intelligent enterprise journey. In other words, an IoT solution designed for just such a use case as Pregis's. To keep its machines running smoothly with no outages or packaging material shortages, Pregis implemented special sensors along with SAP Leonardo IoT. This led to improved technician productivity and lower costs by allowing technicians to configure and monitor packaging machines, their materials, and their utilization, all remotely.

This is SAP Leonardo IoT in action: keeping machine availability high, automating field service, and supporting timely inventory replenishment. Taking an existing set of business processes and delivering better business outcomes. And now Pregis has been recognized as a finalist for the 2019 SAP Innovation Awards! Congratulations to their team for their tremendous innovation.
