Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling in SAP S/4HANA – What Does It Mean to Me?

The functionalities of SAP SCM Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) have been available in SAP S/4HANA since Release 1610.  If you were not a user of SAP SCM, PP/DS might be a mystery.  If you are familiar with PP/DS, how it can be used in the new SAP S/4HANA system will be useful.

PP/DS provides many different features to fine tune your production planning activities.  As a starting point, some of the important implementation considerations revolve around flagging which materials and work centers are intended to be planned using PP/DS.  Important additional activities necessary for conversion from SAPM SCM to SAP S/4HANA will also be explained.

As the discussion moves to planning processes, MRP Live will plan infinitely and PP/DS will then consider resource availability in the sequencing of the orders.  Interactive planning will be used to show how delays and resource constraints can easily be accommodated.  PP/DS features like sub daily planning and pegging will be described.

There are also new SAP Fiori apps for PP/DS.  Using these apps, the user experience improvements will stress the simplicity and effectiveness of the new SAP S/4HANA PP/DS solution.
