Recap: SAP Code Jam in Hamburg in February 2019

Using Machine Learning to innovate processes is very hard and can only done by data scientist?! Not at all. On 8thFebruary 2019 we hosted a SAP CodeJam on SAP Leonardo Machine Learning Foundation topic.

34 attendees wanted to get better in touch with Machine Learning. Abdel Dadouche gave us an introduction, why Machine Learning will change enterprise processes and how you could use ML. We had the options using Machine Learning on SAP HANA or consume the Service of SAP Leonardo Machine Learning Foundation.

But if you want to use Machine Learning with SAP HANA, you need an instance on your laptop (required are 16 GB RAM) or you need an instance provided by GCP, SAP, AWS or Azure. We decided to use SAP Leonardo Machine Learning Foundation, because the attendees could start as well and the preparation are less.

After the short introduction – more than one hour with more than 10 questions by the attendees 😉 – Abdel gave us an overview about the tutorials and missions. Often I heard, “Yes I know it – but I don’t have enough time to try out the tutorials and missions.” At the event date, there was enough time and we had an expert, who can help us, if there are any issues.  One of the first results was the use of image recognition. All stuff for try out the services are available at the mission and it worked very well.

After lunchtime the attendees tried out the face recognition. One of the ML-fans Alexander Geppart used his own content, not the missions content. Have a look how good the face recognition identify faces. The next step could be to train an own model to identify SAP Mentors on the picture 😉

What are the key findings of the SAP CodeJam. Machine Learning will become more important in the next years. SAP Leonardo enables developers to intregrate easily ML in their applications. And it is also available in the SAP Cloud Platform Trial Account.  So, you can create prototypes to get better in touch with machine learning.

Last but not least, many thanks to Abdel Dadouche and Krishna Dalal for organizing the event. We are very happy about the good support for community events. Our next SAP community – ABAPgit Bunkai –  event will be on 14thSeptember 2019.
