We’re happy to announce the general availability of SAP Convergent Charging 5.0 Support Package 3 (SP3). With SP3, we continue our User Experience (UX) renovation to provide a best-in-class, consistent, and modern user experience to our customers through the adoption of the SAP Fiori user experience design. We also continue to enhance our high-performance and scalable charging platform to make our existing customers happy.

This blog provides you with the latest and greatest SP3 highlights of our charging engine, part of the SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management (BRIM) suite.

SAP Convergent Charging Cockpit. Since the introduction of SAP Convergent Charging 5.0 and the SAP Convergent Charging Cockpit, we have built so far five Fiori apps for SAP Convergent Charging, intended for a user role called System Administrator. With SP3, we continue to provide a best-in-class, consistent, and modern user experience to our customers through the adoption of the SAP Fiori user experience design. To that end, we are introducing a new Fiori 2.0 launchpad – supporting standard themes – as well as two brand new Fiori apps to Manage Mapping Table Classes and Manage Mapping Tables, intended for a new user role called Pricing Specialist.

New Fiori App: Manage Mapping Table Classes. This new app allows pricing specialists to search, view, create, copy, and delete mapping table classes.

New Fiori App: Manage Mapping Tables. This new app allows pricing specialists to search, view, create, copy, and delete mapping tables. It also enables pricing specialists to import and export data from/to a CSV file, all that with taking into consideration the hundreds of thousand rows that such mapping tables can include at some customers.

Core Tool Communication Compression. With SP3, we are also introducing a Core Tool communication compression feature to reduce response time e.g. when accessing a large catalog object.

New API to Purge Expired Allowances. A new SOAP Web Service API has been released to give the possibility to manually purge expired allowances. This API allows e.g. to remove manually allowances faster, instead of waiting for the clean-up scheduler to execute.

CC-CI Interface. When Convergent Invoicing (CI) is responsible for triggering the Consumption Items (CIT) charging, CC can now enrich the charging result to inform CI that no Billable Items (BIT) were generated during the charging due to a free rating for instance. Thus, this facilitates the reconciliation between Consumption Items and Billable Items required for revenue assurance.

Improvement of System Resiliency. It is now possible to limit the number of charging sessions that can concurrently be opened for the same subscriber. This controls the risk coming from misbehaving equipment that may endanger the system stability. Also, a new protection algorithm has been added to the cache warm-up mechanism to prevent burst phenomenon that occurred while starting the landscape. Finally, a table rollover mechanism has been added on the Session Database to prevent data fragmentation.

SAP Convergent Charging 5.0 SP3 has been released to customers on November 15th, 2018 and is available on SAP Service MarketPlace.
