SAP Analytic Cloud – What If Simulation

I am sure several of you still remember a typical use case of SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards (former Xcelsius), where customers used the product to create a What If Simulation.

So I thought it is about time to show, how simple such a scenario could be realized today using SAP Analytics Cloud.

You can find the complete detailed step by step guidance and the source spreadsheet here:

Thanks Ingo for sharing..But looking on document (step by step guidance) so many steps needs to be follow for What-if.I believe it was more easy to implement in Xcelsius.

      Hi Amit,

the steps in Xcelsius were very similar, just at a different "spot". In Xcelsius you had to create all the formulas in the Excel spreadsheet and then you created the visualization on top.

So if you wanted to use the data in the spreadsheet, the amount of formulas compared to SAP Analytics Cloud would be very similar.

If you wanted to create this on top of Live data - lets say HANA - you would have to create more formulas in Xcelsius compared to SAP Analytics Cloud.

On top - Xcelsius has no concept of Actual vs Plan in regards to the data.

      Hi Ingo Hilgefort

Is it possible to use What-if scenario with BW live connections? Here I see so many limitations and blockers with BW live connections in SAC.

I talked to Ingo and he noted that this should work with any connection.

      Hi Ingo,

First of all, thank you for the step by step guidance.  ¡Great job!

I have a doubt, we can create a "What If Simulation" with BI license option of SAP Analytics Cloud? Or we need  the planning license?

      We appreciate your help.

      Regards,

      Alejandro
