On September 27-28th, SAP Hong Kong held the SAP Cloud Platform Bootcamp for customers and partners at the SAP Hongkong Office. We had around 60 attendees and the event was well received by the participants. The Bootcamp focused on SAP’s new strategy, “Deliver the Intelligent Enterprise” and how SAP Cloud Platform, SAP HANA Data Management Suite, API Business Hub, and Analytics Cloud can enable this.

Imagine what life will be like in the next 5 years. More advanced robotics? More virtual reality? More connected devices? Conversational UI and chatbots are evolving, which will facilitate business processes and soon be developers’ priority to build cloud native applications.

We are all familiar with those digital transformation examples as we use revolutionary platforms like Amazon, Netflix, and Spotify every day. However, SAP also followed this path in the B2B world; we are forging ahead with our cloud technologies and helping our customers transform into intelligent enterprises.

Living with Super Intelligence

While artificial intelligence and the internet of things become more prevalent in consumers’ lives, a data-driven digital platform plays an essential role for the Intelligent Enterprise transformation. SAP Cloud Platform in conjunction with SAP HANA Data Management Suite, can provide our customers with innovative cloud solutions and define the next era of enterprise computing.

Let us take some real-life examples here. SAP and Roche, the Swiss medical company, co-innovate on prevention packages (including a blood sugar meter and a fitness wristband) for diabetes patients. Based on SAP Cloud Platform, the patients and doctors can process and store data from their mobile devices. Doctors can closely monitor this data in real-time and make better decisions.

Another example is how SAP works with Waterwatch Cooperative to build a crop disease alert app to reduce 40% yield loss. Integrated Google Maps data and more accurate weather forecasting empower the farmers to make critical decisions about planting and harvesting. Such intelligent technologies give us the opportunity to reimagine the future and innovate with purpose. Similar cases can be applied to forecasting for natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons.

Extension Platform

Without making an additional investment, SAP mobile card kit allows you to simply extend your existing SAP systems. At the event, I have demoed how-to leverage our mobile service on SAP Cloud Platform to extend SAP applications in just five minutes! With the pre-built templates, the developers can easily publish data into a wallet/passbook style mobile app and create cards with various functionality. SAP Mobile Cards integrates with the SAP Fiori launchpad, SAP My Inbox, and several SAP LoB systems (such as SAP SuccessFactors, Ariba, and Hybris), demonstrating that the cards can contain content from multiple back-end systems. With SAP Mobile Cards (Download here), you can easily mobilize the data out of enterprise systems, view the cards offline and keep all the important content in one place. Multi-Cloud Strategy

We understand that our customers have choices and IT landscapes are becoming hybrid and even more heterogenous. SAP Cloud Platform can be run on AWS, Microsoft and Google Cloud Platform and in the future also on Alibaba and in private cloud deployments. The platform also includes multi-language runtime environments such as Cloud Foundry, and the ABAP environment(recently generally available). Customers will be able to develop and run apps via their choice of infrastructure providers around the world.

Event Highlights and Personal Remarks

After my keynote, William Woo presented the importance of SAP HANA Data Management Suite as well as the benefits of harnessing the power of data and using HANA as a service. Henry Liu provided an overview of the SAP Cloud Platform API economy and guided the customers to explore Open Connectors. On top of that, he also shed light on Big Data as a service making scaling easier and faster. Greg Wong addressed the business challenges nowadays and showcased how to work smarter with augmented analytics - SAP Analytics Cloud. Alex Wong explained why the enterprise collaboration tool - JAM can accelerate the digital transformation. If you are interested in learning more, you can find the Bootcamp recordings here:

Overall, it was a great event that exemplified the capabilities of SAP Cloud Platform. During the conference I was lucky enough to sit down with some incredibly talented colleagues to exchange ideas and as Alibaba cloud was hot off the press, there were plenty of opportunities for future too.

Last but not least, don't miss out on the press release from our SAP specialists sharing mass data processing, augmented analytics and software orchestration. Read here (in Chinese)
