If you have ever heard about SAP’s purpose and promise, you know how important for us it is, to positively impact the world, helping our society, environment and economy prosper together.
We motivate employees to share and implement their ideas at One Billion Lives, we transform the work experience – and are being recognized for that – providing a Great Place to Work to all our employees, we strategically approach Corporate Social Responsibility, encourages and supports employee volunteerism year-round… you name it.
Luckily enough, we are not the only ones wishing – and willing – to make a change in this world. And luckily enough, we have customers and partners who think in similar ways.
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) decided to partner with the Tour de Cure again this year in order to run the 5th Can4Cancer. This is a special event within Australia crated to support research and activities in order to find the cure for cancer. In the last 4 years over $4,200,000 were raised and over 10,000 children across Australia received the message “Be Fit, Be Happy, Be Healthy”.
This year our customer CBA invited us as their technology partner to deliver Analytics and Insights Powered by SAP during the evening diners following the first 2 race days. With riders individually accepting share their Strava information, we pulled their data into our Intelligent Platform. We were then able to provide organizers and riders with a fun filled informational evening!
Just on the second day, athletes rode together over 10 times up the Everest Mountain and spent over 400 hours in the Saddle.
From the time this blog was written, over $2,000,000 funds were raised. According to the Better Health Channel, “In the financial year 2004-2005, smoking resulted in over 750,000 days spent in hospital and cost $670 million in hospital costs”. This means Can4Cancer2018 raised enough funds to cover at least 2200* hospital days! With this same amount of donations Tour de Cure is able to support over 20 research projects.
Our SAP representative Gareth Lloyd demonstrated an amazing performance both on the bike and by over achieving his donation goal! The same way, Chris Long helped navigating one of the Pelotons and made sure everyone was safe and on track. These dedications and performances reflects SAP’s commitment on making the world run better and improving people’s lives.
Sharing his own experience, Gareth said “the best part on tour was hearing stories from local organisations in the areas we visited (Forster, Hawks Nest, Wyong) and learning what the funds meant to them and how they were being used to assist cancer patients, research projects, etc.
We also visited various schools along the journey, to promote the messages around having an active lifestyle, involving the school kids in education around cancer and presenting each school with a cheque for $2.5k to run their own education programs within their school”.
Being able to join Gareth, Chris and the whole Can4Cancer2018 crew with a smile on their faces and the feeling they have done something special reminded me it doesn’t take much to make a huge difference in someone’s else life.
Thank you Gareth and the whole Can4Cancer Team for making it possible and congratulations for the wonderful achievement. Until next year!
