Recent changes in the SAP HANA Technology certification program 2018
Since my previous post about the certification changes in 2016, several new major changes have happened. With this blog I want to inform you about the changes to the SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA certification program in 2018.
The current available SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA certifications:
- C_HANATEC_12 – SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA (Edition 2016)
- C_HANATEC_14 – SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA 2.0 (SPS02)
- C_HANATEC_15 – SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA 2.0 (SPS03)
The soon to expire (by 31.12.2018) SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA certifications certifications:
- C_HANATEC_13 – SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA 2.0
- D_HANATEC_12 – SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA SPS12 (Delta)
What are the differences between the different certification exams?
The SAP HANA Technology curriculum has been expanded by several courses. These new courses have been added to the SAP HANA Technology certifications as well.
C_HANATEC_12:
Required courses:
- HA200 – SAP HANA Installation & Operations based on SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12.
- HA240 – Authorization, Security and Scenarios based on SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12.
- HA250 – Migration to SAP HANA Using DMO based on SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12.
This certification is an on-premise certification available via SAP Training Centers and Pearson VUE.
C_HANATEC_13:
Attention: will be retired by 31.12.2018.
Required courses:
- HA200 – SAP HANA Installation & Operations based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS00.
- HA240 – Authorization, Security and Scenarios based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS00.
- HA250 – Migration to SAP HANA Using DMO based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS00.
This certification is an on-premise certification available via SAP Training Centers and Pearson VUE.
C_HANATEC_14:
Required courses:
- HA200 – SAP HANA Installation & Operations based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS02.
- HA201 – SAP HANA Advanced System Administration based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS02.
New course added to the certification curriculum. - HA240 – Authorization, Security and Scenarios based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS02.
- HA250 – Migration to SAP HANA Using DMO based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS02.
This certification is available as an cloud certification and as an on-premise certification available via SAP Training Centers and Pearson VUE.
C_HANATEC_15:
Required courses:
- HA200 – SAP HANA Installation & Operations based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS03.
- HA201 – SAP HANA High Availability and Disaster Tolerance Administration based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS03.
- HA215 – SAP HANA Using Monitoring Performance Tools based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS03.
New course added to the certification curriculum. - HA240 – Authorization, Security and Scenarios based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS03.
- HA250 – Migration to SAP HANA Using DMO based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS02.
Attention: The HA250 course is still based on SAP HANA 2.0 SPS02
This certification is available as an cloud certification and as an on-premise certification available via SAP Training Centers and Pearson VUE.
So which certification should you take?
As an good SAP consultant I have to say … “It depends”
If you are running SAP HANA 1.0 and need to support this SAP HANA 1.0 system for the next several years, then the C_HANATEC_12 certification us the best way forward.
If you are working on SAP HANA implementation projects, then these probably will be on SAP HANA 2.0. So in this scenario you want to be certified on the newest SAP HANA 2.0 release and that is the C_HANATEC_15.
If you are already certified SAP HANA 1.0 and want to upgrade your certification to SAP HANA 2.0, then you should go for C_HANATEC_15.
I also understand that you don’t want to go through the full courses. So to make your learning journey easier I have created the HATD20 Col15 course. This three day course provides the course material delta for the collection 12 or collection 13 HA200, HA240 and HA250 courses.
To be fully prepared for the C_HANATEC_15 certification you can now study the HATD20, HA201 and HA215 SPS03 courses.

Question about C_HANATEC_13. It’s listed once as expiring and once as being retired. If I have this certification, does it expire by the end of the year meaning I need to certify on 14 or 15 to perform installs or is the exam being retired and the certification expires at a later date?
Bryan Parrott , The certification C_HANATEC_13 will not be available anymore as of 31.12.2018. The SAP HANA 2.0 SPS00, on which the C_HANATEC_13 was build, is already out of maintenance since July 2017.
If you want to be certified on a supported SAP HANA 2.0 version, you should go for the C_HANATEC_14 or C_HANATEC_15.
So it is up to you on which version to certify, but looking at the maintenance dates of SAP HANA 2.0, the C_HANATEC_15 is the best choice.

Course development for SAP HANA SPS04 will not start before the release of SAP HANA 2.0 SPS04. As soon as the courses are updated, we will start work on the certification.
