On October 11, we welcomed customers and partners to SAP’s Montreal office to share in a day of shared insights, feedback and learnings.

Kicking off the day was special guest Sven Denecken (@SDenecken), who traveled from Walldorf to discuss the latest innovations and resources available in S/4HANA Cloud. Sven covered the key considerations for organizations planning a move to Cloud ERP, namely:

  • Your approach needs to be standard, but extensible: While Sven emphasized the importance of managing expectations around moving to a set of standard, defined processes, he also stressed the importance of extensibility – to be able to leverage the SAP Cloud Platform and the S/4HANA Cloud SDK to create in-app or side-by-side extensions to your Cloud ERP in order to gain access to capabilities unique to a customer’s organization.

  • Draw on best practices: Sven encouraged the audience to make the most of the SAP Activate methodology, a best practices framework to that provides a step-by-step guide to help organizations through their implementation, go-live and updates.

Next we heard from Leonardo De Araujo (@Leonardo_Araujo), CTO at Beyond Technologies, a company that is both a partner and a customer of S/4HANA Cloud. Leo shared his insights about Beyond Technologies’ journey with S/4HANA Cloud, in particular, the importance of prioritizing Change Management as a key factor in ensuring a successful project. Some of Leo’s key insights included:

  • Start from the top-down: ensure you have strong executive and management sponsorship for the standardization that comes with cloud; and

  • Think twice before creating too many customizations: choose your customizations and configurations with purpose, as they will increase the complexity of every update.

Other sessions included updates on the roadmap and data migration, along with a very interactive simulation competition where attendees had the chance to manage a fictional business running on S/4HANA Cloud and see the results of their decisions in real-time. Congratulations to Team B on taking home first place!

The day was filled with invaluable insights and we look forward to seeing our Canadian customers again soon at a future Empowerment Day. In the meantime, already planning our next events and hope you'll join us in a city near you. Next up, we’re heading back to SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany on December 11 for our next Customer Empowerment Day. And we’re planning a number of events globally for 2019, so keep an eye on the S/4HANA Cloud community for the latest calendar of empowerment and education events to help you on your road to success.

Happy trails!
