Dates in Revenue Recognition

I just want to take some notes on how SAP Business ByDesign’s revenue recognition run (RRR) is handling dates.

Let’s assume you run a RRR for a past period – this is the usual use case and how is it intended to be used. This is the easiest case. Relevant transactions will be selected until the ultimo of the period selected, posting date is the same. But what if you run it daily, i.e. in the actual period several times? In this case, it will post and select with the actual date. Important to know: for future period, the RRR considers the first day of this future period.

To make this easier to understand, here’s a table with some examples:

Period selected
in the RRR definition
Cut-off and posting date Example for actual date = 2018-OCT-04,
fiscal year equals calendar year
Previous period Last day of period Executing an RRR for 009.2018 sets posting date to 2018-SEP-30 and will select relevant sales transactions at or before 2018-SEP-30
Actual period Current date 010.2018 sets posting date to 2018-OCT-04, selecting at or before this date.
Future period First day of future period 012.2018 sets posting date to 2018-DEC-01, selecting at or before this date.
