Release Batch Import – Focused Build Standalone Extensions Part 5
In this blog series, I would like to describe a few standalone enhancements in more detail, which can be very helpful in special situations and can be used independently from the requirements to deploy process from Focused Build.
In this fifth part, I want to introduce you to a standalone enhancement which is named Release Batch Import, and it is particularly useful for you when you have implemented or plan to implement Change Request Management with SAP Solution Manager.
The Challenge
Customers with many systems landscapes often struggle to manage the import schedules and import jobs from different Landscapes. Although Change Request Management provides with the task lists a landscape specific place to manage imports. There is no central place to manage these activities for all landscapes. This gets especial complex when your landscapes are in different time zones and regions and therefore have different transports windows and timeframes where you are allowed to execute the import.
Release Batch Import
The Release Batch Import Function provides one central place to manage your imports for different system roles and for all the different landscapes that are connected to the change request management.
It is tightly integrated with change request management functionality and can ensure that all the imports a consistent and charm specific import checks are executed. Adding new systems and landscapes is just master data setting away. You can automate imports for specific dates, times or recur for specific weekdays and others.
It is possible to fully consider the status of the corresponding change documents and also to define a new status that is automatically set after the successful import is executed.
Everything is managed centrally in a customizing cluster for the batch import report and allows different variants for different import requirements to be maintained.
One highly appreciated functionality is the possibility to test and simulate go-live imports days or weeks before the go-live. This allows you solving potential transport conflicts ahead of the actual import window and ensures an easier go-live when the time has come.
