SuccessConnect 2018 in Berlin was definitely one for the books. There were amazing keynotes, new product announcements and great networking opportunities.

Highlight of Day One keynote was Bruce Dickinson. What exactly does a heavy metal front man do in a HR Tech conference? Quoting Bruce, "Go figure that out!". From a rockstar and a pilot, to an author and an entrepreneur, his story is unique and inspiring. For those readers who are not familiar with the band, watch this video where the best minds of the music industry analyze Maiden.

Day two keynote by Laszlo Bock (ex SVP - People Operations, Google, Inc.) was an eye opener. Insights on how Google saved over 400 million dollars in costs by "nudges" surprised me! His book Work Rules! is a must read for all HR/HR Tech practitioners who would like to understand how data driven decision making can transform an organization into an intelligent enterprise.

This leads us to a topic of Intelligent HR. SuccessConnect London 2017 demonstrated Co-Pilot in brief, but now we have so much more use cases in roadmap. Amy Wilson, during the keynote and Alex/Jeff during the Machine Learning breakout session presented the vision of SAP on this subject.

Intelligent HR Roadmap

Data driven and machine learning based "Intelligent HR" will gradually change how people operations are conducted in enterprises. SAP must (and i am sure will) be the industry leader in this topic.

Machine Learning Use Cases Roadmap:

HR Digital Assistant (Native Co-Pilot within SuccessFactors, also as chatbots via Slack, Jam or Teams or Mobile/Voice or Google Home/Alexa). Support for Onboarding, Learning, Timesheet, CPM and Spot Awards use cases. This will be free of cost to the customer.

Job Analyzer (Bias Check etc.)

Total Workforce Insights ( what-ifs on Cost of Hiring per location etc.)

Flight Risk Analytics for Talent (Predict who is at risk of leaving).

HR Service Center Ticketing intelligence.

SAP Learning Recommendations.

Machine Learning powered by SAP Leonardo is key framework here. This should open the possibility to use additional customer models for decision making ( for e.g TensorFlow models). For example, sentiment/behavior analysis on publicly available employee/candidate data will improve the predictive capability or could prevent a bad hire. There is huge amount of academic research available on this topic already.

SAP Vision for the Future Cloud Payroll

So what about Payroll? Well, SAP's got that covered too. We do not have a timeline on this yet, but this is SAP's Vision for the Future of Cloud Payroll. This gem of a slide was presented during the Payroll breakout session. We will learn more from SAP on this subject.

Future Cloud Payroll - What to expect?

  1. Co-Pilot/Conversational AI for Payslip related queries.

  2. What-if simulations on personnel event changes.

  3. Fraud detection.

  4. Automated Legal Changes.

  5. Lots of machine learning!

Final thoughts

With such fast paced development, innovative features and depth/breadth of the product, SuccessFactors is clearly the champion in HR Cloud software. For all those customers using SAP HCM, do talk with SAP or your S.I on different deployment models (Core Hybrid/Side by Side etc) on how you can transition to Full Cloud (SF-EC, EC Payroll)

Thank you Stefan Ries for the cool t-shirt. For all those #hrpunks who love gaming, this video might interest you 🙂 Bad lighting and unfavorable seating positions led to those grainy pictures, the amateur photographer in me apologizes. Better pictures next time, hopefully.

vielen Dank to SAP, Partners and Customers for a great SuccessConnect 2018 Berlin.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Hains
