Data models are not just diagrams – they’re far more than that

PostgreSQL is a popular open source database platform, with a user base right around the world. By all accounts, data modelling is not very common in the world of PostgreSQL. In an effort to change that, I’ve written a blog post for 2nd Quadrant, a major provider of services for PostgreSQL, showing an example of how a data modelling tool can add benefit when creating data warehouses using the Data Vault approach – based on a demo by Thierry de Spirlet.

As you might guess, I’ve illustrated my points using PowerDesigner. Take a look at https://blog.2ndquadrant.com/data-modelling-lot-just-diagram/

  • I gave 5-minute lightning talk on this topic yesterday, using PowerDesigner to demonstrate my arguments – the slides are on Slieshare – https://www.slideshare.net/metadatajunkie/lightning-talk-at-pg-conf-uk-2018-104199955
