Women’s Week celebration at SAP Labs Latin America

From March 5th to 9th our Labs organized exclusive activities to celebrate International Women’s Day.

To kick-start the week, the Labs, in partnership with Next-Gen and BWN hosted a local edition of the Women in Data Science conference, a global event that aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide and give support and incentive to women in the area.

The conference gathered together eight internal and external speakers, that delivered inspirational keynotes about the area. One of the highlights was the interactive session from Yasmine Caxeiro, that collected and presented some data from the participants during the keynote.

On March 8th, the session Who owns who? The importance of financial control, with Aldrey Zago Menezes Bellaver, gave the participants some insights and tips on how to handle their personal budget.

In addition, three days of quick massage sessions allowed our colleagues an extra relaxing time.

Two personal defense workshops with maximum attendance closed the Women’s Week. The classes were led by instructor Fábio Santos, from South American Krav Maga Federation. He divided the participants in pairs to teach them how to defend themselves in exercises that simulated real-world situations.

Nicoli Becker, Head of BWN at SAP Labs Latin America, helped to organize the week and participated in some activities:

”Since 1975, United Nations is following the International Women’s Day, officialized by them with the objective of remembering the social, political and economic struggles of women. Over time, the date lost some of its original meaning and gained commercial appeal and festive character, with women receiving flowers or gifts from men, but lately there has been a process of redemption to its original values.

A trend of women seeking for empowerment, justice, equality and respect is on the rise. There’s still a long way to go, but no coming back.

These changes are reflected in our both personal and professional lives: the results of the survey we did for Women’s Week in Labs are a good representation of this. It is good to have our voices heard and to be #empoweredbysap. Hope every female colleague had a chance to enjoy the activities and that more people start to understand the true meaning of this date!”
