New features for Batch Management in SAP ERP

SAP offers a program called Influence, where customers can suggest new features to be implemented in the SAP standard software. In 2017, component LO-BM, was selected to take part in the Influence program and customers were able to submit ideas improvements and missing features for batch management.

An overview of the SAP Customer Connection for LO-BM can be found in the link below:

SAP Custommer Connection – SAP LO-BM (Batch Management)

After the ideas submission, they were voted and and the ideas with more votes were analyzed by SAP development, in order to define if they could be actually become part of the SAP standard software.

The most submitted and voted idea was to increase the length of the batch field (extend DDIC for Batch-No to CHAR20 (minimum)) and this idea is currently under review for portfolio, as it will be a very complex change. Since the batch field is widely used in many transactions and programs, the impact of this kind of change would be huge and it must be carefully discussed and analyzed.

Improvements for batch management at plant level, such as the listed below, were complex developments, and they are delivered in the latest S/4HANA and EWM releases:

Some of these features, however, required a smaller development effort, were already developed and delivered by means of SAP Notes. Below you can find a list of the features already implemented and the respective SAP Note:

Great info Caetano. Couple of points to clarify

      1. These are standard features in S4HANA and no need to implement these notes.
      2. This is applicable only when you have batch managed at "plant level", correct? What if you have batch at "material level"

      Regards, Vikas

      Hello Vikas

In the latest S/4HANA release, all these features are standard. If you are using the first S/4HANA release 1511, then you may have to implement those notes, depending on your support package.

Which exact point would you like to know if it is applicable to the batch management at plant level?

      Regards,

      Caetano
