With Cloud being a primary focus for SAP and an increase in demand from Customers, the number of offerings for SAP HANA on cloud has matured to address majority of the Customer’s needs. Customers must carefully decide the solution path based on their requirements. In this blog, we will see the different SAP HANA Cloud offerings and their specifications.

What is SAP HANA on the Cloud?


SAP HANA on the Cloud can range from just running HANA Application Services on Cloud to running the complete SAP HANA system managed or unmanaged on SAP or private cloud. There are different types of offerings for SAP HANA.

 

SAP Cloud Platform


The SAP Cloud Platform (also known as HANA Cloud Platform) is a Platform as a Service offering from SAP which is used for running tailored Business applications with in-memory capabilities. HCP comes with set of services that can be enabled as needed and provides a platform for Organization to Develop and deploy their application that can utilize the services provided by the Platform.

The SAP Cloud Platform also provides users option to run their applications in Virtual Machine on Cloud foundry and has API for Concur, S/4HANA and SuccessFactors. The onboarding of user is simple, and the platform has good resources to get started.

HANA Enterprise Cloud


HANA Enterprise Cloud is a secure private cloud offered by SAP. Customers get HANA System for which the infrastructure and the platform is managed by SAP. Customers do not need to worry about any Servers or managing the HANA systems like upgrades, backups, monitoring etc. and all system activities are handled by SAP as part of the support agreement for HEC and can be managed on a request basis.

The system is scalable, and the pricing model is subscription based. It provides integration with the On-premise system to connect and consume data from.

SAP HANA One


SAP HANA One (also known as HANA One) is a single instance of SAP HANA hosted on the Public Cloud. The System image is provided by SAP and the system resources are provided by cloud providers. The license cost is in addition to the resource cost (per hour) and customers can deploy the software on the cloud and start using them. The Cloud setup and implementation must be done by the customer and the provisioned HANA system must be maintained by the customer.

Customers who wants to run dedicated instance of HANA in their own public cloud account and do not want to purchase license upfront.

 

SAP HANA (BYOL)


SAP HANA BYOL (Bring-Your-Own-License) is implementing SAP HANA on a certified public cloud by using the customers license. The license must be brought by the customer and the resource charges would be as per the usage.

Major Cloud providers like AWS, Azure, Google, IBM, etc provide certified resources on which HANA can be provisioned. The complete implementation and management of the platform has to be done by the customer.

  • BYOL model

  • Pricing only for the resource usage

  • Complete control and customized deployment of the platform


Beneficial for:


Customers who have a HANA license and who want to move to the Cloud from On-Premise and implement and manage the HANA platform on their own.

SAP HANA on Cloud has different flavors based on different use cases and customers can choose and embrace the one that is suited for their scenario. SAP HANA is here, and Cloud is the future for customers on SAP HANA.
