On occasion of the International SAP Conference for Utilities in Lisbon next April 17-19 will take place a full day workshop where will be provided a deep dive overview of SAP Geographical Enablement Framework:  Overview & Demo, Solution Architecture view, Configuration settings, adjustment of Fiori Launchpad and Enterprise Search for GEF, understanding of HANA Spatial capabilities and advanced topics such as extensions.

Workshop will be conducted by Kevin Morrow (Product Manager, pictured above), Hisham Gouda (Chief Solution Expert O&G Industry) and Miquel Carbó (Solution Expert Utilities Industry) in a session which expects to be interactive and plenty of use cases and examples for the Oil & Gas and Energy (Electricity, Gas and Water) Value Chains and Industries.

SAP Geographical Enablement Framework is a new set of products designed to extend business data with geometric attributes (this is cartographies) for SAP Business Suite or S4/HANA applications. As a framework leveraging the spatial capabilities inherent in SAP HANA, it enables organizations to develop geospatially enriched business data, and make them accessible from within SAP applications. More information can be found in this blog entry:  https://blogs.sap.com/2016/11/10/what-is-sap-geographical-enablement-framework/

SAP Geographical Enablement Framework – New Products

Despite SAP Geographical Enablement Framework (in short SAP Geo Framework or GEF) is a new set of products, there is already an existing community of companies already using such features into what was known as SAP Geo Enablement (in short Geo.E) which was provided as a service from SAP Field Services.  These experiences from worldwide customers have provided the necessary inputs and uses cases to build the foundation of SAP Geo Framework and during the Conference Sessions there will be a use case presentation by Loudoun Water (April 19th, Business Transformation Track).

This interactive, business focused workshop with experts is designed to get practical advice from product management together with use cases experiences from the industry enabling attendees:

  • Reinforce your solution knowledge during deep-dive workshop
  • Design your future company spatial strategy following solution and road map updates from SAP
  • Stablish one-on-one communication with product team, solution experts, peer companies and partners

Looking forward to meet you at the workshop!

      Hello Tugrul,

      Heterogeneous profiles can accommodate.

First part of the workshop will provide a basic understanding of the overall solution plus use cases for the utilities and oil&gas industries, so can be addressed both for business process users and IT analysts with high level knowledge of GIS and / or  SAP ERP, mostly for Enterprise Asset Management

Second part of the workshop will deep dive in the modeling of the tool and its capabilities with real time system examples in order to enable participants to use GEF right after the session, so it is addressed  both for business process users and IT resources with good knowledge of GIS and / or  SAP ERP

      kind regards

      Miquel

      Hello Miquel,

we're running an SAP S4HANA 1610 (SPS00) with UIGEF001 SP04. We did all the prerequisite configuration regarding GEF. The FND_GEF business function activated as well.

However. I read about a BC-Set for a default GEF-Configuration. Unfortunately i'm not able to get any insights to this BC-Set when i call TX spro. It seems like there is no BC-Set available for the GEF component

Any idea how we can have  some insights on a sample GEF-Coniguration? In a first step we just wanna know how the customizing of GEF should look like.

      Many thanks for replying.

      Regards,

      Tobias

      Dear Miquel,

We are currently implementing a test version of SAP GEF on S/4 HANA. We have been able to display the default ESRI open street map. However, we have a few questions regarding API, database settings, etc. Please advise.

      • do we need to create an enterprise search connector and associate it to geo-objects to be able to search for associated geometries?
      • how do we configure to connect to a third party map server?

Also, is this workshop available as a video for download?

      Thanks & Regards,

      Vikash
