LATEST UPDATE: December, 2020 =========================================

For the latest information, visit our blog post series about SAP HANA certification:

For the SAP Press Certification Success Guide, see

For the blog post, see

Introduction

This blog is part of a series to help you pass the SAP Certified Technology Associate - SAP HANA 2.0 certification exam, C_HANATEC_13.

For an overview of the exam, see

For the sample questions, see

Topic Areas

There are 10 topic areas and you can expect about 8 questions about each topic.

In this blog, I will discuss the Installation and Upgrade topic.

On the SAP Training website for C_HANATEC_13, the exam objective for this topic is stated:
Explain the pre- and post-installation task for SAP HANA cockpit
and the SAP HANA database system.

For a tailored data center implementation (see below), a C_HANATEC_xx certification is required so you would expect this topic area to be very present at the exam. In the past, there even was a separate specialist exam for this E_HANAINS_xx, see SAP Certified Technology Specialist: SAP HANA Installation (Edition 2015) – by the SAP HANA Academy. However, on my exam, there were only a couple of questions about installation and none particularly difficult.

Study Material

The exam guide states that the study material for this topic comes from training

You can download the index of the guide with the unit and lesson objectives from the SAP Training website.

Some study tips and references on these topics are covered below.

What’s New?

The focus will be on the new SAP HANA 2.0 features, so if you are new to this version you might be interested to view the What’s New videos first:

Note that C_HANATEC_13 covers SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 00 only. C_HANATEC_14 will cover SPS 02.

Sizing

For on-premise implementations, you need to be familiar with sizing considerations both for SAP HANA as an appliance and for a tailored data center integration (TDI) implementation.

The most important sizing variable is memory. However, as SAP HANA compresses data and the compression factor heavily depends on that data, special tools and expertise are required for accurate sizing.

For a quick overview, see the tutorial video on the SAP HANA Academy from the SAP HANA Academy Sizing playlist:

SAP HANA Academy - Introduction into HANA Quick Sizer Tool

To study the topic of HANA sizing, the Master Guide is a great place to start:

For more information about sizing, see

To find the latest certified configurations for SAP HANA as an appliance, see

For more information about running SAP HANA in your own data center, see

For SAP HANA 2.0 hardware requirements, see

System Requirements

For this topic, you need to understand the differences between a single and multiple host system and understand the concepts of host, instance, and system.

Where to find the right documentation, SAP Notes and how to navigate the Product Availability Matrix is covered in the next two tutorial videos:

SAP HANA Academy - SAP HANA platform Installation and Update: Documentation

SAP HANA Academy - SAP HANA platform Installation and Update: PAM

Concepts are documented in:

The specific operating system requirements are documented not in the SAP HANA server installation guide but in a number of SAP Notes, for the different platforms (Intel and IBM Power), HANA versions (1.0 and 2.0), operating systems (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux), and operating systems versions (SLES 11, 12 SP1, 12 SP2), etc.

A good place to start is:

SAP HANA database lifecycle manager

For this topic, you need to be familiar with the SAP HANA database lifecycle manager (hdblcm).

In the next video tutorial, the different interfaces (command-line, Windows, web), modes (interactive, batch) and versions (installation/update, resident for post-installation) are discussed.

For the documentation, see

You also need to be familiar with performing a (single host) SAP HANA server installation. This is covered in the next video tutorial:

https://youtu.be/NNWGg9u9cw4?list=PLkzo92owKnVyGFolr-w_xa5zP073YSFNH

SAP HANA Academy - SAP HANA platform Installation and Update: Server Installation

For the documentation, see

Installation Automation

The next topic covers installation automation using the SAP HANA database lifecycle management tool in command-line mode for an unattended installation with a parameter and password file. This is covered in the next video tutorial:

SAP HANA Academy - SAP HANA platform Installation and Update: Server Installation

For the documentation, see

Distributed Systems

The next topic covers distributed systems. The installation is very similar to a single-host one. However, it is important to understand the concepts.

For the documentation, see

SAP HANA 2.0 Cockpit

Architecture, Installation, Update

The SAP HANA cockpit is a completely new component for SAP HANA 2.0 and is a new topic for this exam. Cockpit is comprised of a number of XS Advanced microservices and web applications and runs on a dedicated SAP HANA, express edition system.

SAP HANA cockpit architecture

Note that in later versions of SAP HANA 1.0 (SPS 09 - 11), also included an XS classic application named cockpit. This version was deprecated in SPS 12.

There is a full playlist on the SAP HANA cockpit on the SAP HANA Academy.

Installing the SAP HANA cockpit is very easy and is covered in the next video tutorial:

https://youtu.be/VCINesu8Cco?list=PLkzo92owKnVxpS6RRQ3Mdu_TNASEzvnnE

SAP HANA Academy - Getting Started with SAP HANA cockpit: Installation

After installing the system, you need to register the SAP HANA systems that you want to manage with cockpit as a resource. For this, a technical user needs to be created on that system. Optionally you can create resource groups and cockpit user. The tool you use for this is the cockpit manager.

How to update an SAP HANA cockpit system is covered in the next video tutorial:

https://youtu.be/-Y7EmS5HWP4?list=PLkzo92owKnVxpS6RRQ3Mdu_TNASEzvnnE

SAP HANA Academy - Getting Started with SAP HANA cockpit: Update

SAP HANA cockpit has its own release cycle which aligns with the SAP HANA main SPS releases. For the details, see

What's new for each support pack is covered in

SAP HANA cockpit has a dedicated product page on the SAP Help Portal

Post-Installation

Configuring connectivity to SAP Solution Manager including a remote service connection via SAP Router is part of the HA200 training.

This is documented in

Another topic that is part of the post-installation section is the license for SAP HANA. How to install one is covered in the next video tutorial:

SAP HANA Academy - Install License

What you need to know about licenses is documented in

Update

If you know how to install SAP HANA, updating the system is easy as most of the steps are the same.

What you need to know is documented in

Below an older video tutorial showing an SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 update. However, the process is still the same.

SAP HANA Platform Lifecycle Management

The SAP HANA different versions of the hdblcm tool - one to install and update, one for post-configuration tasks - is already covered in the tutorial video for topic area 3 (see above). This topic covers all the platform lifecycle management tasks that can be performed with the resident hdblcm tool.

How to add components is the topic of the next video tutorial:

SAP HANA Interactive Education

SAP HANA Interactive Education, or SHINE, is a demo application that makes it easy to learn how to build applications on SAP HANA Extended Application Services Advanced Model.

How to install SHINE is covered in the next video tutorial:

https://youtu.be/i6s-44cLiX4

SAP HANA Academy - Installation and Update: SHINE

For more information, see

Revision and Maintenance Strategy

The last topic for this topic area is the Revision and Maintenance Strategy.

What you need to know is covered in an SAP Note and a Product Management presentation.
