What has virtual reality (VR) got to do with learning? And in what way will the way we learn change due to the digital transformation? At Learntec 2018, the leading fair for digital education, speakers and exhibitors from around the globe came together to present the current trends in education and give answers to these questions. SAP, too, was present and showcased some of our innovative learning solutions at Learntec 2018.

SAP Manifesting its Role as Innovator in Digital Education

Only recently, SAP Education has been named the largest e-learning provider in Germany (see mmb industry monitor “E-Learning-Wirtschaft” 2017). With big numbers comes big responsibility, and SAP sure delivered during Learntec 2018, which took place in Karlsruhe, Germany, from January 29 to February 1, 2018. At the always busy SAP pod, a joint exhibition stand from SAP Success Factors, SAP’s Partner Intelligence, SAP Education, and SAP Knowledge and Education pod, experts were showing visitors the highlights from the SAP Learning portfolio.

Dr. Bernd Welz, Executive Vice President and Chief Knowledge Officer at SAP, was also on site and took the stage together with Thomas Jenewein to talk about innovations in learning solutions and how SAP currently uses them: from machine learning (ML) to VR and collaborative learning. The well-attended talk was one of the highlights of the SAP contribution, showing our thought leadership and manifesting our role as innovators in the digital education industry.

But at SAP, we don’t stop at thought leadership – we also know how to put innovative ideas into practice! Did you know, for example, that openSAP uses ML technology to translate the course materials on-the-fly, allowing non-native English speakers to learn even more easily? Or that Learning Rooms are making use of VR to enable a virtual reality experience? Conversational systems, too, play a key role in SAP’s learning solutions; an example? “Ed the Bot”! The chatbot has recently been introduced in SAP Learning Hub to be on hand with help and advice for learners, and SAP CoPilot is being used as a conversational digital assistant. On the former topic, Lars Satow and Thomas Jenewein delivered a talk and let the audience in on the question how chatbots contribute to the SAP learning experience: “Chatbots als Lernbegleiter in der SAP-Weiterbildung”. Among Ed’s tasks are greeting new learners, answering questions, and recommending next steps for additional learning.

SAP SuccessFactors Learning and SAP Enable Now: Two Visitor Magnets

Visitors at the SAP exhibition pod showed great interest for the SAP learning solutions; in particular for SAP SuccessFactors Learning – SAP’s Learning Management System, SAP Jam – SAP’s Enterprise Collaboration Solution, and for SAP Enable Now.
