Solution Manager and the Journey to S/4HANA
SAP Solution Manager 7.2 ensures a smooth and efficient transition to SAP S/4HANA and the world of digital business. The next few blogs will cover how Solution Manager 7.2 supports each of the following phases in the Transition to S/4HANA.
SAP provides a 5 step process for adopting SAP S/4HANA called the Customer Adoption Journey Map. This is a useful tool for exploring the value of SAP S/4HANA.
Project planning is the most important part of the journey. A well-executed planning phase will help ensure a successful transition.
To assist in planning, SAP provides three key tools – Transformation Navigator, Roadmap Viewer, the Readiness Check and Project Management.
You will also notice Usage Logging as the first step. This is a technical setting that allows Solution Manager to collect detailed data for custom code analysis. Ideally, this should be activated 6 months in advance.

Transformation Navigator allows customers to use their current landscape and see what the future transformation will look like. It provides a quick value assessment as it ties business indicators to value aspirations like reducing inventory and closing the books faster. Customer references and Videos are also included as part of the outcome.
SAP S/4HANA Roadmap Viewer
Next the Roadmap Viewer. This gives on-line access to SAP‘s Activate Planning content, which is the successor to ASAP. This provides one simple, modular and agile project methodology supporting all S/4HANA transition scenarios and is found under the Solution Specific tile in the Roadmap Launchpad.
SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check
The readiness check is a holistic system analysis and is a key input for your kick-off planning workshop. This check is run from the SAP Support Launchpad and summarizes the most important aspects of the conversion in an easily consumable way. The main areas analyzed are: Business Functions, Ad-ons, Custom Code, System Sizing and Simplification Items. Note you need to be on ECC6 for this to work.

The Project is then fully integrated with the Requirement to Deploy value chain and enables complete transparency of task, timeline, issue and resource management. Planning is key to answering questions of cost, value, and impact. It is a good idea to kick off this phase off 12 months ahead of the actual project start date. This will give you time to perform a detailed analysis of things like custom code, impacted processes, add-on compatibility, simplification items, etc. As Solution Manager enables most of the functionality required to support the analysis, it makes sense to align your ALM roadmap with your S/4HANA transition to ensure dependencies line up.
