With Design Studio, exporting was a nuisance for a lot of SAP customers: The feature was just too rigid and offered just a few options for customization. Legacy Web Application Designer reports often could not be migrated, because broadcasting PDF documents in the new world has not been supported. This is why bi excellence created an extension component to enable highly customizable and high quality exports to PDF, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Now with Lumira Designer, things have changed: SAP enhanced the PDF export and customers are finally able to broadcast applications to users in PDF format.

So why should is an export extension still be important?

There are three answers to this question:

  1. Business usually not only wants to export to PDF, but also to PowerPoint or Word
  2. Business often does not request a simple “one-pager” PDF. Users want to define export-specific layouts, where they can rearrange components. Highly customizable headers and footers, a title page or table of contents may also be requested.
  3. Business does not only want to export what is currently displayed on the screen. They want to receive a document with all tabs or pages of an application, different filter sets or even contents of multiple applications with just one click.

biExport extension for Lumira Designer and Design Studio does not only support the export formats PDF, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

It also allows you to use a Word document or PowerPoint presentation as a template for PDF export. Simply create a document with title pages, table of contents and any of the layout elements offered by Microsoft Office. Then add placeholders and maintain the document in the “Template” parameter for PDF export. After just a few minutes, you have created a beautiful export document, which your business users will love!

The following video shows this feature for Lumira Discovery. As biExport is a generic platform, the export works exactly the same way for Lumira Designer:

Now the most fascinating feature of biExport: A generic framework for exporting multiple views at the same time! It can be freely configured to iterate over a tab strip, a page book, values of a filter dropdown box, values of a dimension, or multiple applications. A lot of our customers even combine these iterations to create really complex briefing books and monthly management presentations!
