Hallo allerseits,

es ist ein bisschen Zeit ins Land gegangen seit unserem letzten DSAG Arbeitsgruppentreffen – doch heute präsentiere ich Ihnen „Interviews“ mit 3 interessanten Leuten, die sich alle gemeinsam für das Wohl unserer DSAG Arbeitsgruppe (SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform) engagieren.

Ich möchte hier die Gelegenheit nutzen, um Samuel Lang, Ulrich Lengnick und Jürgen Thomas zu Wort kommen zu lassen.

Wer bist du?

Ha, gute Frage. Wüsste ich manchmal auch gern :-D. Fangen wir einfach an: Im Herz bin ich Tiroler. In Wirklichkeit wohn‘ ich auch im Jahr 2018 in Fahrrad-Nähe zum SAP-Headquarter in Walldorf. Computer und IT-Themen haben mich schon als Kind fasziniert, insofern war es eine glückliche Fügung, dass ich seit 2007 Teil des SAP Microsoft Platforms Teams sein darf. Nach einigen Jahren als Techologie-Berater in vielen Kundenprojekten und bei SAP bin ich inzwischen für das Cloud-Infrastruktur-Thema für DB/OS Platforms verantwortlich. Und Microsoft ist mit Azure nach wie vor ein wichtiger meiner Partner.

Warum zieht es dich immer wieder zum Arbeitsgruppentreffen für SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform?

…die erste Frage war besser Jessica…! Die zweite ist einfach zu beantworten: Coole Leute. Super-Interessante News und Background-Infos. Jedes Mal ein Hammer-Tag.
Und ein DSAG-Treffen waren für mich in jeder Rolle wertvoll, egal ob als SAP-Kunde, Berater, Entwickler oder interessierter Laie.

Welche Trends sind dir in den letzten Jahren aufgefallen?

Viele. Egal welche, bei den AG-Treffen haben sich entscheidende Trends immer mit als erstes abgezeichnet. Mit meinem aktuellen Aufgabenspektrum „Infrastruktur Service für SAP“ sind bei mir natürlich Cloud-Themen und die damit verbundenen Trends im Fokus.

Im #SAPonMS-Kontext sind die einfachen Möglichkeiten für Applikations-Hochverfügbarkeit, Datensicherung, Disaster Recovery und allgemein der Trend von OnPremise-Deployments zu agileren Cloud-Projekten auch bei den Arbeitsgruppentreffen tonangebend.

Für wen lohnt sich das Treffen?

Du hast nicht zugehört. Hab ich doch schon gesagt :-). Einfach für jeden der das hier liest!

Ulrich Lengnick

Wer bist du?

Ulrich Lengnick, 59 Jahre, davon seit 40 Jahren in der EDV tätig. Seit 10 Jahren bin ich bei Miele & Cie. KG für über 2.000 Datenbanken mit einer Gesamtgröße von ca. 130 TB  verantwortlich und unterstütze unsere SAP Basis bei Miele in den Themen Performance- und Problemanalysen.

Seit der Gründung der DSAG-Arbeitsgruppe SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform darf ich deren Kundensprecher sein.

Warum zieht es dich immer wieder zum Arbeitsgruppentreffen für SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform?

Es ist einmalig, Erfahrungen mit anderen Kunden, Entwicklern und Verantwortlichen von SAP und Microsoft auszutauschen.

In den vielen Jahren in der EDV hatte ich nur sehr selten die Möglichkeit in einen so direkten Kontakt mit allen beteiligten Gruppen zu kommen. In der Arbeitsgruppe ist dies aber regelmäßig möglich.

Welche Trends sind dir in den letzten Jahren aufgefallen?

Die Entwicklung und Bereitstellung neuer Funktionen wird immer schneller und die Zyklen für Updates werden immer kürzer.
Um hier am Ball zu bleiben wird der Informationsaustausch, wie er in der Arbeitsgruppe stattfindet, immer wichtiger.

Für wen lohnt sich das Treffen?

Durch die Informationen aus erster Hand ist das Treffen für jeden interessant, der SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform betreibt oder sich einfach nur über die Möglichkeiten dieser Plattform informieren möchte.

Nicht zu unterschätzen ist auch der Austausch von Erfahrungen untereinander, die Möglichkeit Probleme mit anderen Kunden, sowie mit Entwicklern zu diskutieren oder auch Vorschläge direkt zu platzieren.

Wer bist du?

Ich bin mittlerweile seit über 22 Jahren bei Microsoft und lebe seit 20 Jahren in den USA in der Nähe des Microsoft Hauptquartiers in Redmond. In all den 22 Jahren bei Microsoft habe ich im SAP Umfeld gearbeitet. In Microsofts Entwicklung bin ich für die Integration von SAP Software in die Microsoft Plattform (Azure, Windows und SQL Server) verantwortlich. Seit 8 Jahren leite ich ein Team, das Teil des Microsoft Azure Entwicklung ist, das so gut wie alle Disziplinen zusammensetzt, um Software zu entwickeln und an Kunden auszuliefern. Unser Schwerpunkt als Team dieser Tage dreht sich um SAP Workload auf Microsoft Azure. Teile meines Teams sitzen zusammen mit SAP Entwicklern in einem Joint Team mit SAP um Integrationen von SAP in die Microsoft Plattform zu unterstützen und durchzuführen. Da Teile meines Teams in Deutschland sitzen, verbringe ich immer noch viele Wochen des Jahres in Deutschland.

Warum zieht es dich immer wieder zum Arbeitsgruppentreffen für SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform?

Die Arbeitsgruppentreffen für SAP auf der Microsoft Plattform sind sehr wichtig für mich und mein Team um Feedback von Kunden zu bekommen und Erfahrungen auszutauschen. Wir nehmen das Feedback von Kunden um Szenarien und Funktionalität zu definieren und zu priorisieren.  Auf der anderen Seite benutzen wir die Gelegenheit dieser Treffen um die Kunden über die neusten Entwicklungen und Releases zu informieren. Oder den Kunden die Themen und Projekte vorzustellen an denen wir arbeiten.

Welche Trends sind dir in den letzten Jahren aufgefallen?

SAP auf Public Cloud ist real. Der Trend SAP Workload in einer Public Cloud wie Azure zu operieren ist, im Gegensatz zu früheren Technologie Trends, nicht von kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen getrieben. Der Trend Public Cloud für mission-critical Software zu benutzen, ist von Kunden getrieben die global operieren. Überraschend dabei sind auch die Industriesegmente aus denen Software massiv in Public Clouds betrieben werden. Neben globalen Hightech, Manufacturing und Retail Firmen sind es vor allem Firmen aus dem Finanz und Versicherungssektor, die Public Cloud massiv benutzen. Auch haben sich die Diskussionsthemen um Public Cloud mit diesen Firmen fundamental gewandelt. Vor ein paar Jahren waren Themen wie Public Cloud Security und Compliance die meist diskutierten Themen mit Kunden. Mittlerweile stellen wir speziell bei den global operierenden Kunden fest, dass die Security und Compliance Prozesse in Microsoft Azure von den Kunden extrem gut verstanden werden. In vielen Fällen finden wir, dass Kunden schon Hybride Security und Compliance Prozesse implementiert haben. Die Themenschwerpunkte die wir heute mit SAP Kunden im Zusammenhang mit Azure diskutieren, sind die Transition zu S/4HANA und die Art und Weise wie Azure also Public Cloud den Resourcenbedarf von S/4HANA erfüllen kann. Und eine Plattform darstellt, die ideal für solch komplexe Business Transitionen ist. Speziell in diesem Umfeld hat Azure mit HANA Large Instances ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal.

Für wen lohnt sich das Treffen?

Das Treffen lohnt sich sicherlich für jeden der sich im SAP Basis Umfeld und SAP Basis und Infrastruktur Architektur bewegt. Kunden, die SAP Software auf der Microsoft Plattform ausrollen und operieren wollen, finden Gelegenheit mit der Entwicklungsseite zu diskutieren und Information auszutauschen.

Normalerweise haben wir 90 Minuten Blöcke reserviert, 45 Minuten Vortrag + 45 Minuten Diskussion… danach selbstverständlich eine Pause, damit man den ganzen Input verarbeiten kann. Also findet hier nicht eine Stunde lang Frontalbeschallung statt! Es ist immer genug Zeit für eine offene Diskussion eingeplant. Wollten Sie sich schon immer mal mit den Entwicklern unterhalten? Who are you?

Ulrich Lengnick, 59 years old, has been working in EDP for 40 years. For 10 years I have been at Miele & Cie. KG is responsible for over 2,000 databases with a total size of approx. 130 TB and supports our SAP basis at Miele in the areas of performance and problem analyzes.

Who are you?

I’ve been with Microsoft for over 22 years and have been living in the US near Microsoft headquarters in Redmond for 20 years. In all the 22 years at Microsoft I worked in the SAP environment. What trends have you noticed in recent years?

SAP on public cloud is real. The trend to operate SAP workload in a public cloud like Azure, unlike previous technology trends, is not driven by small and medium businesses. The trend to use public cloud for mission-critical software is driven by customers operating globally. Also surprising are the industry segments from which software is massively operated in public clouds. In addition to global high-tech, manufacturing and retail companies, it is primarily companies from the finance and insurance sector that use the public cloud massively. Also, the discussion topics about public cloud have changed fundamentally with these companies. A few years ago, topics such as public cloud security and compliance were the most discussed topics with customers. In the meantime, we have noticed that the security and compliance processes in Microsoft Azure are extremely well understood by our customers, especially among our globally operating customers. In many cases, we find that customers have already implemented hybrid security and compliance processes.
