2017 was the year of transformation: We saw almost every industry invest in IoT as well as leading industries moving quickly to implement IoT solutions. Forrester Research even predicted that IoT will become “the backbone” of customer value.

Why does all that matter when it comes to finding new startups for our SAP IoT Startup program?  Well, we are not just taking any “nice and cool” IoT or Digital Supply Chain startup into the program. With the right choice of startups, we help bringing the SAP IoT strategy into action. By understanding upcoming IoT trends, we find innovative startups who complement the SAP product portfolio. Thus, we can offer our customers the best solutions out there to increase their business value and push digital transformation.

In preparation for the first Startup Recruitment Day in Berlin January 15 we, the SAP IoT Startup Accelerator Team in Berlin and Palo Alto, viewed over 500 pitch decks, shortlisted 100 and finally invited 11 startups to Berlin. At the event entrepreneurs had the chance to present to those, who know SAP's products and customer needs best in the three focus areas we concentrated on for the first edition of the Recruitment Day: Product Owners from Digital Connected Assets, IoT & Digital Supply Chain Management and Digital Manufacturing as well as colleagues from the SAP field. Striving for match-making the best with the best, the colleagues got into exchange with the eleven startups, ranging from companies managing 3D workflows (3YourMind) to new interaction solutions for digital devices in an industrial context (Kinemic).

“It was outstanding to meet all the Product Owners and Sales Representatives and to place our solution right where it belongs”, says Bastian Burger, Co-Founder of blik. His startup offers robust sensors for connected logistics in warehouses.

Each startup had one hour with the respective Line of Business experts to discuss a possible integration into SAP and future customers.

“The team has done a wonderful job shortlisting over one hundred startups and putting them all into the different categories. It’s not like you look through all of them but rather at what makes sense for your product. So, thumbs up for that good work, I think we should do this much more often,” ensures Reghu Ram Thanumalayan, VP Engineering Digital Assets & IoT at SAP.

Stay tuned to what the startups will work on with SAP. To be part of the next Startup Recruitment Day please contact us via iot-accelerator@sap.com
