Life at SAP – with Carla Masperi

One of the best ways to show what Life is like at SAP is to share our employee stories to provide insight into their experiences and what being successful means to us at SAP. I am Heather Walker, and I work on the Global Employer Branding team. Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to speak with 50 colleagues across our Europe, Middle East and Africa region to help share their stories. Here is one of those interviews:

Carla, from Italy is SAP’s Chief Operating Office for Italy and Greece and we spoke to her about her Life at SAP.

When did you start working at SAP?

I started with SAP Italy in 1996 as an Account Executive and was promoted to Team Leader, then Sales Manager and again to Sales Director, a role I held for two years before leaving SAP in 2006.

I re-joined SAP in 2013 as D&T Director. I took on the COO role for Italy in 2017 and now I am also COO for Greece.

Did you need any specific qualifications for your current job?

Rather than qualifications it was my business acumen and ability to cover several areas, combined with sales DNA that got me where I am today. I also have a very structured approach and a good knowledge of internal processes and the SAP portfolio to successfully drive Demand Management.

What are the key skills people need if they are considering a similar career to you?

You need curiosity, ambition and high sales confidence. You also need to be willing to win and work as part of a team.

What does your career at SAP mean to you?

SAP has provided me with the best place to utilise my skills and competencies, which is one of the reasons I chose to return.

What does success look like to you?

Success to me means being able to test my talent.

If you could go back in time and give your 18-year-old-self one piece of career advice what would it be?

Study Economics or Engineering and get international experience in the Far East if possible.

What do you do for fun outside of work?  Do you have time to things outside of work?  🙂
