One of the best ways to show what Life is like at SAP is to share our employee stories to provide insight into their experiences and what being successful means to us at the company. I am Heather Walker, and I work on the Global Employer Branding team. Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to speak with 50 colleagues across our Europe, Middle East and Africa region to help share their stories. Here is an interview I did with Sunniva Bjerke.

Sunniva started working for SAP Norway in 2016 as a Management Support Specialist and is now a Sales Support Specialist.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I don’t have clear memories of what I wanted to do as a child, but in my teens I was very interested in computers and wanted to be a computer engineer.

If you could go back in time and give your 18-year-old-self one piece of career advice what would it be?

Get as many internships or relevant part time jobs as possible within the types of organizations you see yourself working in. This will enable you to learn more about what type of work you like best. Studying something in theory is always very different from working with this at an actual job.

I would also consider what type of skills which would be most in demand in the future, and always try to keep up with the technological development, since this will affect most professions in the future.

What do you think are the key skills you need to have in your role?

Analytical skills, being able to work in teams, problem solving and project management skills.

The most important skill is to be willing and able to learn new systems and processes.

What does your career at SAP mean to you?

I love being part of a company which is oriented forwards the future, and that will simplify processes for all industries.

I also love my co-workers – they are smart, sociable and fun people.

What does success look like to you?

Success is to be able to excel at your job and to be able to develop and improve the job tasks you are assigned to in an efficient and innovative way.
