One of the best ways to show what Life is like at SAP is to share our employee stories to provide insight into their experiences and what being successful means to us at the company. I am Heather Walker, and I work on the Global Employer Branding team. Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to speak with 50 colleagues across our Europe, Middle East and Africa region to help share their stories. Here is an interview I did with Denise Marchi.

Denise is originally from Italy. She moved to Switzerland to study for a Masters in Management at HEC Lausanne in 2012. In 2014 she became an SAP intern in the consulting department in Lausanne, she then joined the Presales Academy program and is now a Presales Analytics and Predictive & Innovation Lead for SAP Switzerland.

How did you get your current job?

After one year of the Presales Academy my now manager decided he wanted me to join his team because of the great work I did and the motivation and passion I showed.

What qualifications or skills did you need for your current role?

I needed to show strong leadership, business, sales and communication skills as well as have a good understanding of the market unit, technology and innovation. Being customer-oriented is also very important.

What traits do you think people thinking of a similar career to you must possess?

You need to have passion, determination and be motivate with excellent communication and leadership skills. Teamwork is also another key component.

What does your career at SAP mean to you?

It means doing/delivering my best to make my customers happy. If they are satisfied, I am consequently. At the same time, it means growing from a professional perspective.

What does success look like to you?

Success means creating a tight bond and long-term trust with our customers and making them happy by providing great quality solutions to their business and technical needs.

If you could go back in time and give your 18-year-old-self one piece of career advice what would it be?

Open your horizons, don’t limit yourself to only what you think you are/want to be.
