One of the best ways to show what Life is like at SAP is to share our employee stories to provide insight into their experiences and what being successful means to us at the company. I am Heather Walker, and I work on the Global Employer Branding team. Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to speak with 50 colleagues across our Europe, Middle East and Africa region to help share their stories. Here is an interview I did with Clara Favilla.

Clara, a Customer Engagement and Commerce Presales Specialist, is based in Milan, Italy but her SAP training took her to California.

When did you start working at SAP?

I started in 2012 as external consultant for digital marketing initiatives.

Have you held any other roles with SAP?

I attended the SAP Academy for Presales in California before becoming a Presales Specialist back in Italy.

How did you get your current job?

I applied to the SAP Academy for Presales at the end of 2013 because I wanted to understand better about SAP Solutions and how the relationship with customers works - how SAP can be an advisor for companies.

What qualifications did you need for your current job?

When I applied to start in Presales I think they valued more the soft skills and potential I demonstrated in the assessment sessions because there was a full-time training period in place. I think what they most valued was the problem-solving attitude and rolled-up-sleeves approach on top of a general understanding of what SAP does as a company and for its customers.

What are the top 3 skills people need to work in presales?

You need to have a curiosity about business processes and related software solutions, analytical skills to solve complex situations and strong empathy and communication skills to deliver effectively contents to customers.

What does your career at SAP mean to you?

It has been the biggest investment of my professional life so far. I have been working for this company for the last 5 years and the most I learned professionally came out from the variety of experiences I have had during my time here.

What does success look like to you?

Success to me means being recognized for being useful and inspiring to others. Success in presales is when the customers I serve value our contributions to empower new business processes and improve efficiency in their companies.
