Life at SAP – with Anne-Marie Scott
One of the best ways to show what Life is like at SAP is to share our employee stories to provide insight into their experiences and what being successful means to us at the company. I am Heather Walker, and I work on the Global Employer Branding team. Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to speak with 50 colleagues across our Europe, Middle East and Africa region to help share their stories. Here is an interview I did with Anne-Marie Scott.
Anne-Marie is a Sales Director for Services Industries in the UK having begun her SAP career in 2014 as a Senior Account Executive.
How did you get your current job?
Having over-delivered in my previous role and obvious commitment to the team and business I was approached about management roles in 2016. At the time none of them were the right fit but when my manager left he encouraged me to apply for his role.
What qualifications did you need to be a Sales Director?
Experience means more than qualifications in my role. You need an ability to create and sell a vision and use the SAP engine to great effect.
What do you think the key skills people need for sales management?
You need a strong understanding of complex solution selling, software and SaaS as well as the ability to advise in a consultative manner, selling business value aligned to the customers’ objectives. You also need to be able to handle stressful situations calmly, think and act independently whilst working as part of a team and excellent communication skills.
What does your career at SAP mean to you?
It means everything; SAP enables me to push and stretch myself every day and grow myself.
What does success look like to you?
A happy family, managing a team which people want to be part of or work with, a happy boss and SAP thriving in the market place.
If you could go back in time and give your 18-year-old-self one piece of career advice what would it be?
Don’t accept second best. You can only grow yourself by pushing your boundaries. I only learnt this in later years.
