One of the best ways to show what Life is like at SAP is to share our employee stories to provide insight into their experiences and what being successful means to us at SAP. I am Heather Walker, and I work on the Global Employer Branding team. Over the last few months I have had the opportunity to speak with 50 colleagues across our Europe, Middle East and Africa region to help share their stories. Here is one of those interviews:
Alessandro from Milan, Italy, has always wanted to help people and as a child wanted to grow up to become a doctor. As Head of Presales for SAP he plays an integral part in SAP’s mission to help the world run better and improve people’s lives.
When did you start working at SAP?
I started working for SAP in 2002 as an Account Executive for the Consumer Products Industry. From there I became a Consumer Products Channel Sales Executive, Sales Manager then a Global Account Director. I am now Head of Presales.
What qualifications did you need for your current job?
Innovation addicted, multiplier, empathic leadership and motivator
What do you think are the key skills needed in your role?
From a technical perspective, familiarity with smart devices and innovation trends is required. One of the most important soft skills required is the ability to story-tell. In my role, I have had to be an empathetic leader and motivator.
What does your career at SAP mean to you?
It is more than one third of my life; it is part of my history and how I matured as employee, as a manager and as a human being. It affects, and has affected, my life - not just professionally but personally. The people at SAP are not just colleagues, they are friends.
What does success look like to you?
Success is improving our lives, as individuals and as team or family. It is achieving goals above expectations in my professional life as well as providing my children the opportunity to grow in a stimulating environment.
If you could go back in time and give your 18-year-old-self one piece of career advice what would it be?
Dare to believe more in myself and be less scared to make mistakes. In any case, there could be only two possible results: if the outcome is positive you’ll be able to achieve a fantastic success if you fail, it will be an opportunity to learn in the most effective and memory lasting possible way.
