I was really impressed when I have first seen the module called Profitability Analysis in year 1997 or 1998, not really sure about the year.

Having all P/L related transactions' financial impacts in one single structure and get your financial performance in real time ( if the costs or profits are allocated exactly during posting). Defining derivations, allocations, top-down functionality, ...were really unbelievable.

I was working for Unilever at those years and Category Accounting and Management Accounting teams were the most supporting teams of SAP R/3 ( MM and PP users were not so happy at those years 🙂 )

Now days of R/3 over and  SAP ERP is fading away. New HANA platform enabled many features that are adopting main functions to new digital economy. S/4HANA is shaping the way of doing business transactions.

So new era needs new tools for Performance Management. 3 months ago one of my colleague name Aykut Tellibayraktar  ( He is the one who influences the Turkey SAP Ecosystem about SAP's new innovations) who works for SAP Turkey Analytics domain introduced me new profitability tool FS-PER ( we called the tool under this name).

I have really felt the same when I have first seen CO-PA 20 years ago. This tool has unique features, first and most important feature is runs on HANA and developed by native HANA. This means speed. CO-PA users know what speed means, CO-PA works fine and covers many profitability needs however due to old design and technology, real-time CO-PA reports (KE30 mostly based on report painter) take too long to get results. Addition to this any mistake during top-down or allocation cycles run, all records written to CO-PA tables need to be reversed by adding lines. After using several years your CO-PA tables need to be handled because of enormous growth.

This new product has 3 main component

Data Aggregator

This component integrates to your systems without data replication.  If the you want to keep data in the source system thanks to access speeds of GByte’s per minute is enough to use on-the-fly (without ETL) relevant cost data from a remote non-SAP system, this is the preferred option. Alternatively smart data integration capabilities can be used as well.

Calculation Engine

Calculation Engine is designed for enormous volume of data processing. It provides predefined business functions for allocations, risk and transfer pricing as well as capabilities for data enrichment, valuations and various types of deterministic and stochastic calculations.

Simulation Application

Any simulation or prediction scenarios can be run in seconds without inserting any record to your cost transactional data.

You may ask a basic question that, My SAP ERP system is not running on HANA, Can l use FS-PER? Answer is Yes.

You can install it stand alone but integrated your existing solution landscape.

Summary

SAP Performance Management for Financial Services is new tool for all type P/L, Product Costing, Product and Customer Profitability purposes. Runs on HANA, can process big volume of data, can connect any SAP ERP system without replicating and populating transactional data.

The last and good feature is re-sync to your SAP solutions.

Further functions can be used to re-sync the systems with each other by constructing and sending update records:

  • The Remote Function Adapter delivers update postings or transactions to non-SAP and SAP General ledgers.

  • The Planning Engine Adapter delivers total or delta records to a SAP BW & BPC system.

  • The Model Writer delivers total or delta records to a local or remote HANA table.
