Migration of Location and Logistics Area using Migration Template

This blog helps you to understand step by step process in order to migrate Location and Logistics Areas in Business by Design system.

When you have to create multiple Locations and Logistics area manually in Business By Design system , it is time consuming and tedious to do so. The best way to create Location and Logistics area is through importing data via Migration of Location and Logistics Area by filling the legacy data in  migration template.

The location and location layout concept enables you to design a detailed model of your company’s supply chain. The location represents an external view of your company that helps you to communicate with your business partner. The location layout on the other hand represents an internal view of your company’s structure. It allows for an integrated material flow for warehousing and production through a common layout. You can centrally maintain the layouts of the different sites and locations within your company.

Note: Location should be unique and records to be imported to be limited 5000

  • Sandeep,

Is there a limitation for the number of logistic areas that can be created in one location? You mentioned that the migration tool is limited to 5000 records, but, could I create 10,000 logistic areas in one location in two uploads?

  • Dear Fernando,

This Limitation for the number of logistic areas that can be created in one location mentioned above is only with respect to Migration perspective as it might cause performance issues at the time of uploading. Yes you can create 10,000 logistic areas in one location in two uploads.

  • Hello Sandeep,

Do you have experience migrating logistics areas with Storage Control Profiles?

There doesn't seem to be any documentation regarding this and it could make the process quicker of filling out the migration template.

I am currently trying to do this but I am receiving the following error message saying, "Logistics area XXXXX StorageControlProfile should be empty if Inv Managed Ind is unchkd"

This of course doesn't make sense to me since the profile already has the inventory managed indicator. I added the inventory managed indicator to the template and tried to simulate it again. However I then received the following error message,"Logistics area XXXX Mgmt of Logi Units should not be empty if Inv Managed Ind is chkd".

Its pretty much telling me that I need to add all the other columns to the template. However, the storage control profile already has this information.

Any help of this would be appreciated.

  • Dear Adriel,

Please ensure you have maintained field value "Management of Logistics Unit" and "Blocked for Putaway"  in the migration template.

  • Hello Sandeep,

Thank you for you response as this helped clear up those error messages!

However, I am receiving one last error message, "Inventory-managed logistics area above already exists in the location layout"

The migration tool doesn't let me know what area is giving me the issue.

I have looked through the template and I don't have any parent logistics areas as inventory managed.

Any idea of what this error could be for?

    Best regards,

    Adriel Negrete

    Dear Adriel,

Looks like you are trying to create nested locations with hierarchy,  I will have to check this further in your migration excel , Could you please attach the same, will check further and let you know.

  • Hi Sandeep,

Can you migrate additional logistics areas below and already existing logistics area?

I am trying to split up the layout into two migration templates in order to accommodate the 5000 max logistics area rule.

I just want to make sure I can add additional child logistics areas via migration once the parent logistics area is already migrated.

    Best regards,

    Adriel Negrete

  • Hi Sandeep,

    Thanks for the blog.

Am trying to migrate the logistics area with material flow rules, am getting the error as "The Sequence ID of advanced material flow should be unique every time". I checked in the system as well as template there is no repeat on the sequence ID. Could you please help us on this. Thanks
