With the recent SAP S/4HANA 1709 release, I would like to give you more details about what’s new in S/4HANA Sales.

First, a quick recap of the most important updates from the past S/4HANA releases (1511 and 1610) in S/4HANA Sales:

  • completed the simplification of SD data models (SAP note 2198647);
  • renovated the user experience for multiple business roles across the order-to-cash process; and
  • moved most of the LIS based analytics reports to S/4HANA embedded analytics framework.

The business benefits resulting from these changes in SAP S/4HANA Sales are:

Now, the new release of S/4HANA (1709) provides customers with additional functionality and innovations, such as:

  • New billing function to support the digital business model
  • New Fiori Overview Page
  • New analytics dashboard
  • New foreign trade functionality

  • New billing function to support the digital business model

Today, more and more companies have extended their traditional business with digital products. Besides the traditional delivery of physical goods and fulfillment of service request, companies allow their customer to consume the products first and pay later based on the actual usage, a so called “Pay-As-You-Go” business model.

S/4HANA Sales can now collect the external usage information and combine the related billing request with other sales and distribution documents (e.g. sales order, delivery, debit memo request) to create one single invoice.

If a customer prefers to pay with the digital payment method, S/4HANA Sales provides the native integration with SAP digital payment add-on and supports credit cards and other real-time payment methods in a secure and efficient way without high effort to onboard payment service provider (PSP).

  • New Fiori Overview Page

With the overview page Sales Management Overview, sales manager gets a graphical overview of his sales data on analytical cards and can further analyze the data by navigating to related analytical apps from the cards.

On the operational level, internal sales representative can work much more efficiently, using the My Sales Overview to search for, create, modify, or view sales information. Such sales information includes blocked credit memo requests, open sales quotations, open sales orders, customer returns, customer contacts, sales order fulfillment issues, sales quotation pipeline, and incoming sales orders analysis.

  • New analytics dashboard

With S/4HANA embedded analytics, business users acquire business insight when a transaction is happening and can take immediate action to improve business performance. With S/4HANA 1709 Sales, more analytics content is provided to track sales performance, e.g. Backorder Items, Profit Margin Analysis and much more. Let’s look at one example below.

To deliver on-time as a customer requested is one of the key factors to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. The delivery performance dashboard monitors the current delivery performance of sales orders. In the case of potential delays, the sales clerk can directly navigate to the relevant sales document and master data object pages for more detailed information or collaborate with the plant manager to resolve issues.

  • New foreign trade functionality

For SAP ERP customers moving to SAP S/4HANA, please note the ERP SD-FT module covering foreign trade functionality is now covered by SAP S/4HANA International Trade. With 1709 release, S/4HANA International Trade covers:

  • Intrastate reporting
  • International trade classification
  • International trade compliance with focus on legal control for export

SAP S/4HANA 1709 also covers letter of credit functionality. The basic letter of credit functionality is included in the digital core:

  • Manage basic master data;
  • Determine nominal amount;
  • Assign a letter of credit as payment guarantee to sales documents
  • Block sales and delivery documents if not complied with terms in letter of credit
  • Make risk check decisions; and
  • Recheck, release or reject the blocked documents.

Furthermore, advanced trade finance function with letter of credit is covered in S/4HANA Treasury and Financial Risk Management.

For a broader range of foreign trade function, or for a global trade processing hub, customers can benefit from SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS), which is natively integrated with SAP S/4HANA.
