SAP SuccessFactors SuccessConnect 2017

I recently had the opportunity to attend the annual SuccessConnect 2017 event held in Las Vegas. It was reported that there were 3,414 attendees, including speakers from 121 different customers. This is the first year that the event was sold out in advance and I suspect that is in correlation with the increase in SAP SuccessFactors adoption from existing SAP HCM customers. The published numbers are shown below.

Unlike the past few years, there were no live polls during the keynote this year to indicate which customers in the audience were currently SAP HCM on-premise and which were live on the SAP SuccessFactors solution, an exercise that proved unfavorable at the earlier SuccessConnect events.

The event is projected to triple in size next year and is scheduled to be held at the Aria Hotel in Vegas. There are several published event recaps but I think the best one was published at Digimonica by fellow SAP Mentor, Jon Reed. You can find that article here.

The keynote introduced some of the new leadership team including Rob Enslin (President, Cloud Business Group and Executive Board Member with SAP), Greg Tomb (President, SAP SuccessFactors), Amy Wilson (Global Head of Product) and James Harvey (Global Head of Engineering and Service Deliver....

4 Focus Areas of Concentration for SuccessFactors from Rob Enslin

SAP SuccessFactors has four focus areas of concentration to which they are committed:
1 User experience
2 Global
3 Application flexibility (Customers do not have to do it all it once. They can go one module at a time)
4 The power of we (all about integration). Harness the power of the best companies, 400 partners, 6,000 trained consultants, 160 extended apps that run on the platform.

SuccessConnect did not offer any on-premise SAP HCM content which seemed to be a sore point for many attendees. That in addition to the rumored cancellation of the annual SAPinsider HR2018 event in the US only exacerbated the chatter on this topic.

The Future of SAP Payroll

All of SAP’s approximate 9,000 on-premise Payroll customers’ want to know what is next for them. There is an amazing blog on this subject from SAP Mentor Steve Bogner, check it out here.

Soundbites Notes and Observations

  • • 100m people using SAP SuccessFactors around the world, processing half a billion transactions a day (during peak season)
    • SAP SuccessFactors has 2,500 development team members
    • 84 Country localizations
    • Software delivered in 42 languages and payroll is supported for 41 countries
    • “Configure & Go” software. Greg spent a good amount of time saying that speed is the goal for delivery of the SAP SuccessFactors solutions. “The goal is to get implementation time down to nothing. We want to have accelerators for every step of the project.” (he noted this did not apply to Payroll)
    • SAP SuccessFactors messaging -> People are the #1 asset in all business. People are at the heart of all things we do.
    • Like last year, the audience was very functional in nature (Directors of HRIS, Learning, Recruitment, etc.) unlike traditional SAP conferences that have a strong IT presence.
    • Existing SAP customers noted the lack of on-premise content
    • Lots of new company names from the non-SAP side
    • Event did not seem as content rich as SAPinsider HR2017
    • Like last year, SuccessConnect did not provide access to the session content (PowerPoints, etc.) on the app or website until a week later. As an attendee, this was frustrating as it was hard to select the appropriate sessions to attend without seeing the content.

I look forward to attending next year and watching this conference grow.
